Hi, I'm new here and diagnosed with osteoporosis.

T score -3.3. on my spine and -2.8 on my hips.

My endocrinologist prescribed Boniva - montly pill.

Any experiences with this medication? I would appreciate your advice. Thank you in advance!

I did Boniva IV every 3 months for I think it was two years. Couldn't do Boniva pills due to gastro issues. Anyway my DEXA numbers got much worse, no improvement. Hip t score went from -2.9 to -3.3. Dr changed to yearly Reclast infusion. I've had 2 Reclast treatments. Will have DEXA in 2024 to see if there's improvement. Rheumatologist said next bone drug would be Prolia if results of Reclast are not satisfactory. I probably will not agree to Prolia if Reclast not successful. I've had a very complicated history with GCA /PMR & multiple medical issues. My Boniva story is only one of many. Just didn work for me. Best wishes to you!

Thank you for your reply. This will be my first osteoporosis drug and I hope it will work for me, along with the lifestyle changes, of course :) Sorry it didn't work for you thought. Did you experience any side effects?

No side effects from Boniva or Reclast. Big decision to go on any of these drugs. Hope all works out for you.

Actually, my diagnosis is more than a year old, I have tried avoiding meds and taking supplements, increasing physical activity and eating more nutritious food, but the T-score got worse 🙁 Now I'm going to try Boniva and see if it improves my T-score.

As far as I know, Tymlos is a different type of drug, however I haven't been offered that. Nevertheless, I know how difficult and confusing all this can get... I hope that Tymlos works for you. Good luck!
