weight loss and zoledronic acid

HI Radars, you could ring one of the specialist nurses who will know the answer to this question. 0808 800 0035.
I hope your infusion went well and that you are feeling ok. I have never heard about it causing weight loss but most drugs list so many side effects it probably also lists weight gain so I wouldn’t worry too much. However you should be under a dietitian if you are struggling with your weight they can prescribe fortisip or other build up drinks to help you and advise on diet
thanks, I had my infusion at 4.30 no side effects whatsoever yet,the nurse said there was no need to drink excess water just to drink as normal, I had a coffee while it was been done, blood pressure was a bit high but ok she said probably due to being there.
I hope you continue to feel well and so pleased you had your infusion as you had so many worries.
It may be several months before you see a great difference in your movements and activity but don't let this put you off by thinking it has not worked. It will be gradual.
You may have a bit of bone pain or headache over the next few days but ordinary painkillers should see to that.
Well done on seeing it through.
thanks, I have been for my daily walk and it has slowed me down, and I am starting to feel chilly, the nurse made me a cup of coffee I asked do I need to drink a lot of water she said to just drink normally, before the infusion she said have I been taking adcal which your supposed to I said no because of my hiatus hernia, she went away to look at my blood report ,she said I was ok,blood pressure a bit high but ok.
Really sorry to hear you are unwell and have an infection. It is a very rare side effect and it's so unfortunate you have been hit with it.
After my first infusion I swore I would never have another, delusions, incontinence, hallucinations, vomiting, acute pain and fever, and much like you, I wish I had never had it.
Be assured that you will feel better within the next few days, at least in hospital you are in the right place.
Reading different articles, it seems the first infusion is the worst and further infusions have much less side effects as I can confirm, now having three.
Hang on in there Radars I know you have other health problems including your prostrate troubles. Think of the next few months when you will feel your bones getting so much stronger and you will be able to do more.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
X
How are you feeling now radars? Hopefully you are still at home and not feeling too bad.
thankyou, not bad still got aches and pains and feeling chilly.
Good to hear you’re not tooooo bad. Take it easy.
Thanks, zoledronic acid is linked to uti infection and the fever I had
Hi, I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing? Hope you are doing better and not having side effects xx
thanks, I'm not bad still don't know whether it was the infusion that caused my uti infection, or bladder or kidneys that made me pee blood or if it will come back after finishing antibiotics.
how long are you on the antibiotics for? Hopefully they will kill off any bugs and save you going through that again. I’m glad you are doing ok now and hopefully it wasn’t the infusion but either way you seem to of done well not getting other side effects so fingers crossed for the future. Did you manage to speak to a dietitian about some weight gain drinks like fortisip etc? That’s usually the first line they will prescribe you could even ask your gp for them qs they are happy to prescribe. I’ve had lots of different supplements due to my bowel issues I’m only 40kg and 5ft 6 so I can’t risk losing more but if you are at an at risk weight you should definitely be under a dietitian. Good luck
I did get other side effects a fever and flu like symptoms, the doc in a/e said I was running a temperature, the drip I was on was magnesium chloride and potassium and things, regarding weight gain everything goes to my stomach, I was on trimethoprim antibiotic for 7 days.
