I have a T score in my hip of -2.9, and my doctor wants to put me on Fosamax. I'm 67, also have Parkinson's, so she's concerned I'm a higher fall risk than most. I've read a lot on Fosamax, and it gives me the heebie-jeebies! Any thoughts? Anyone taking it and for how long? Any issues with it?

Fosamax???
Hi higgs. I'm a year older than you with the same hip score and I can't tell you about the drug after really giving it some thought, I decided to wait and see if lifestyle changes make any difference first. Age and hormonal changes make all of us lose bone, but there were so many other factors that caused deficiencies in my case that I want to know how much all these changes make. If I took fosamax now I would never know.
Everyone is different and only you know what path is right for you. There are a lot here who are trying the no med course because I think it's in our nature . I'm sure there are many on fosamax who are happy with their results and just have no need to talk about it.
I took fosamax every week for four years and made it to the end without any side-effects. I am sceptical of its efficacy and my doctor does not want her patients to repeat the dose, so I won’t use it again. It did not harm me, though I am aware of the terrible, fortunately rare, possibilities. Since discontinuing fosamax I have concentrated on long walks and lifting weights, and my bone density has not decreased, so weight bearing exercise appears as effective, at least for me.
