I requested my medical records and noted that the PTH sample I had taken was lost so there are no level for that. Is it important that I pursue this? I think it must be as it is one of the tests requested when a patient is diagnosed with osteoporosis. It will be a battle to get this this test ordered so I want to be reassured that it is necessary.

PTH testing

You didn't personally lose the blood sample, the Surgery/clinic/ hospital did so they should repeat it without question. As I understand it the parathyroid should ideally be checked as, if there is a problem, it can be treated and osteoporosis improved. Others will respond with more detail I am sure.
It’s very important indeed. It’s a frequently overlooked cause of osteoporosis and must be ruled out before any form of treatment can be considered.
as someone who had two raised pth results overlooked prior to OP treatment I’ve now been diagnosed with normocalcaemic hPTH. Ensure you get calcium, vit d and parathyroid samples all from same blood draw. Either calcium or parathyroid done at different times are basically useless as it’s the relationship between them at that moment that leads to diagnosis.
totally agree with t1gernidster and Nannie-c its really important to have vitd calcium and pth tested from the same blood draw if you have any sort of hyperparathyroidism then it is curable and will lead to bone density improvement
We have a factsheet that explains what happens to bones if your parathyroid gland is overworking.
