I’ve had injections in both my knees and they were successful for a number of years. They reduced the pain and gave me more movement in my knees . I am sure your doctor will tell you that you can only have so many so make them last as long as possible I only had them once a year. My knees especially my right has deteriorated , last years injections did not give me any benefit in my right knee and I am now waiting to see a consultant .I hope they work for you as they made a great difference to my life enabling me to carry on going on long walks with my husband and dog which I love.

Hope they work for you let me know how you get on

sending you my very best wishes for less pain allowing you more enjoyment in your life x

For a little over a year I've been using a non-medicated lubricant called Flexiseq. I had just seen an orthopod with idea of possible knee replacement. Since starting the Flexiseq, and also using a cheap elastic brace when I need to, not often these days, I have no current plans or need for any other treatment, neither cortisone injections (which were never offered to me) nor knee replacement. Don;t know how long this will last, but hoping for the best.

I also do exercises. A really good book, if you don't have ready access to physiotherapy, is Treat Your Own Knees by Jim Johnson. Key is to strengthen muscles that support the knee, especially the thigh muscles.

I have genetic osteoarthritis affecting both my knees, my brother had knee cap replacements, he does not admit it but does not jump for joy with them🙄 recent cold weather has meant a lot of pain especially up and down stairs🥴 have been suggested injections, but not really convinced, only temporary solution? Have diabetes 2 so a bit overweight, was partially solving this when hit with Prostate Cancer, which meant weight going up, via sitting around all day, with radiotherapy sessions, cold wet weather did not help! What about knee warmers of some sort, although that would in theory be more a support, body getting used to them and defeating their purpose? I have a broken skull which has affected my equilibrium/balance, from double epileptic seizure in 2018, so not exactly super exercise mobile. I am presently using magnesium oil joint spray, maybe situation will improve with warmer weather, plus not exactly best time in life physically and mentally?

Can you check with your medical people whether using a (good, heavy, sturdy) pedal exerciser might help your strengthen leg muscles without stressing the actual knee joint?

The one I use is called Todo and I had to buy it through Amazon but possibly as these things seem to be becoming more popular they may be more available now.

Interesting? I have an exercise bike which I used for years, I fell off in 2017, a seizure, I actually landed on top of it, I broke at least five ribs, it was my first seizure on a new medication, caught myself unaware, I have auras before a seizure, [about 10-20 seconds] I have not used it since, I could put beside my bed in my bedroom, [to act as an emergency cushion?] but thanks HeronNS an interesting alternative!

I have been using an exercise bike since 2008 fairly soon after I had my first total knee replacement. Had the other TKR in 2010. I have used the bike for 15 minutes every day since. Best check before using though.

A pedal exerciser actually seems to strengthen different muscles than walking - I don't use a bicycle, stationary or regular - and has been very helpful to me. I have quite serious OA in both knees now, but this, walking, other exercises physio-recommended and Flexiseq* have worked wonders. You can't fall off a pedal exerciser as you sit in a chair. I read or watch tv while using mine, usually for about 1/5 hour at a time.

Hi have been through terrible medical trouble since 2016, I knew my brother had knee jobs, so genetic knew I would be next, going through PC radiotherapy sessions with cold wet weather hitting me hard, hopefully through this black period, can actually use light exercise bike and slowly build up🤞 I have had exercise bike in nearly ten years, in Feb 2017 I had a seizure and smashed my rib cage, circa 5 broken ribs, falling off the exercise bike [new medication at the time]🙄 I smashed my skull Jan 2018, double seizure, balance/equilibrium out of order, 2020 in full covid isolation [diabetes 2 for good measure🙄], 2021 violent reaction to AZ vaccine [CT scan hospital then found 2018 seizures were terminal🥴], 2022 Prostate Cancer, finished 25th Jan 🤞 wot the heck? can get out now, and try to improve the quality of what time I have left, my epilepsy specialist agrees fully my epilepsy medication works, "so go out and enjoy yourself!"👍
