I'm having a telephone conversation with my GP in March.
My breast cancer Doctor has advised me to chat with my GP and future bisphosphonates for me to take.
So I've looked some up and now worried about the side effects.
I haven't a clue what she'll ask how to answer. But also don't want to just say yes to whatever.
It's seems this journey has many surprises. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all. I'm old so not worried in that way but I feel for you younger ones. Bless you all.
Hi Solotol. I’ve been on Terraparatide for two years and Denosumab I think for nearly two years and am fine. I did have a hiccup five months into the Denosumab with four new fractures but I was told it takes one to two years to work. I’ve been fine since ( fingers crossed) . There’s been horrible things said about Denosumab but I’ve been fine on it. Mind you I had a bad dexa score meaning my bones were very weak anyway. The thing is with any medication they’ve got to tell you the worst thing that can happen. I’m absolutely fine on my medication. I know they’ve all got a bad reputation but my bones are so bad I had no alternative other than take them. Even paracetamol Can have bad reactions. There are millions of people on these bone meds and I’ve not heard of anyone having a really bad reaction. I was first put on to Alendronic acid but that made me violently sick. So I wasn’t given any more. It’s now a distant memory. Others take them with no problems. Why have they recommended you going on bone meds. Is it because of your cancer treatment. Maybe you could increase your calcium in food and take a calcium tablet. To be honest I would be asking the question of why do they want you to take this and is it possible to just increase your calcium. If they say it has to be medication then don’t worry about it. You don’t know how you react until you actually have it. As I said I had no alternative. I hate to think what I would be like now had I not taken the meds. I’m old too.
I'm in Anastrozole for breast cancer. It blocks the hormone estrogen. So it drops by about 80% I have osteopenia but my spine is in the oestoporosis state. So my breast physician wants me on it. I'm on adcal so that may help but I have osteopenia years. I'm slim and had early hysterectomy. So I'm glad in a way. I have to take other drugs for AF. But hearing bad reviews onthe drugs was concerned. So I'll see what GP suggests. I've looked them up so I am more aware. Thank you for your answer.
Please don’t take too much notice of all you read. I can understand your concerns. I suffer with a bad tummy anyway so when I was given Alendronic acid I only took one and it made me sick. Otherwise what I’m on is fine for me. Everyone is different so what suits one doesn’t suit another. I’ve got a Cousin who is on Denosumab the same as me. She has been on it a few years now. She’s fine like me. I’ve had nine fractures in all. Seven being in my spine. You really don’t want to be like I am. I have been in considerable pain today. Hopefully they will catch it in time for you. Good luck and trust what the consultants tell you.
Thank you all my answers have been helpful. Yes Mavary I hope it gets treated in time. Have a spinal injury anyway so I'm glad this cancer doctor advised me. As a locum Dr said adcal was all I needed. 🙃 .
Sorry hope your pain eases off. Pain is a pain in the bottom. Hope you get sleep.
Thank you. It just seems to be a bad day today. It’s been really good for a few days and now it’s got bad again. I thought it was too good to be true. Perhaps tomorrow will be good again. I certainly hope so. Good luck for being cancer and fracture free.
Sorry all all YOUR answers have been helpful......
