Aledronic Acid weekly
I don’t know why you would as I imagine it would not be effective in improving your bone density which is the aim of the weekly medication.
Thank you for your reply. I have been taking AA for 6 months on a weekly basis. However, I missed a dose due to a delay in my delivery, and thought perhaps every 2 weeks would be ok. I am lucky not to have any side effects, so on reflection, taking AA every week makes sense. It was good to hear that your experience of taking AA has improved your bone health.
I have been taking alendronic acid for four and a half years and my bone density is improving. I have no side effects.
This is reassuring to read. I had my AA meds in the drawer since 7 May, afraid to take them. I eventually started 2 weeks ago. Had some pain and a little nausea the first week but this week only had pain in my hands/wrist. I do have osteoarthritis in my hands so the pain could be that. Time will tell. It’s good to hear positive stories too.
I also have osteoarthritis in my back, feet and hands. I saw a rheumatologist last week to discuss next steps re osteoporosis medication and asked him whether there could be a link and he thinks I’d have the osteoarthritic pain whether I was taking alendronic acid or not. He advised me to carry on taking alendronic acid for another two years to get my bone density better before stopping as when I stopped taking it in 2014 my scores had sadly worsened by my next DEXA scan in 2017.
I can understand why you would want to take every 2 weeks as it is such a nuisance to take and really messes up your day. It stays in your body for such a long time that it may be ok but you would need an expert to advise you.
Thank you for your reply. I have been taking AA for 6 months with no side affects. Due to a delay in my prescription, I missed a weekly dose and thought perhaps I could reduce my taking AA to fortnightly. On reflection, I plan to continue weekly as I am hoping it will have a positive effect on my bone health.
I wish you well with your next DEXA.
