Hi is anybody using forteo injections . As I am struggling when travelling with forteo at keeping it at the right temperature. I do have the blue Thermo bag and ice packs which they supplied I also bought a med Angel sensor that I put in the blue box with injection. My problem is the sensor keeps going off one minute it’s to hot then I use another ice pack to cool it down. Then it’s to cold 😡 has anybody else travelled with forteo

Many Thanks

This article has some information, including a link to patient recommendations. I'm sure others with experience will be along.

Dont take it the risk is far greater than any supposed and unproven short term benefits.

I start this medication next week. Not looking forward to it. 2-3 years of daily injections.

I am on my 7 pen now and to be honest I haven’t had many side effects as of yet

I did have pain in my foot for a few weeks but after that seems to have gone away

The only thing I have put weight on around my middle it could be my age at 66 but not convinced

I only inject into my thighs as I find that it works better for me

As I have had 3 fractures and 2 compression fractures of the spine and kyphoplasty surgery on all of them

Due to lifting a washing machine

That’s when they found out I had osteoporosis of the spine

So I guess I am more at risk of getting more fractures if I don’t take action now

I know it’s a hard decision to make and I kept reading all the side effects that I said I wasn’t going to take it but also some really positive results

So I decided I will try it if it makes me feel ill then I will stop taking it

Good luck and stay positive

Hello. I just completed my 2 year regiment on Forteo. Have 12% increase in bone density after 1st year. After second year completed, am on annual Reclast infusion. Experienced no side effects from either.

I did not have the problems you have keeping the Forteo in correct temperature. I didn't have a "Blue Box" ; My thermal travel bag from the manufacturer worked well for me. Perhaps you could contact Forteo Connects or Lilly cares Foundation and ask for some advice. or different travel carrier. Don't know what type of travel or how long your travel is. If you are in the US, I have the phone numbers for Foteo Connects and Lilly Cares if you want them to call for a solution for the temp issues. Since I travel a good amount too.....a PM is best way to reach me.

Oh, the injections aren't bad. (And I was freaked about daily injections at frist too.) Tiny needles. I did best by insert then directly into a little bit of gathered abdminal area...but not let the needle go in at slight angle....bruised that way a few way. I kept the device with needle attached straight as I inhaled slightly.

I'm on pen 12 (half way) had problems first 10 day - 2 weeks which might have been the injections or a minor virus – dizziness and feeling sick. The travel problem is an issue for me as I don’t live on the mainland so often need to take the injection with me in order to keep to the two-hour window for the daily injection. The travel bag and special freezer pouches last for about 7 hours, I have discovered to maximise this I put the medical travel bag into a second ordinary freezer bag with more ordinary freezer packs, so even on the hottest day I don’t have too worry. I did check the temperature of our 8-year-old fridge and found it didn’t always stay in the 2-8 degrees required, so we needed to buy a new one. Also tried a travel fridge / drinks cooler don’t bother it did not store at 6-8 degrees but 8-12!!!!

Good luck

I suffered 8 spontaneous vertebral fractures after a course of Prolia (Denosumab) So recently I started Forteo injections (called Teriparatide here in the UK) and finish my first pen on Sunday. So far, I have been at home, but have a fair amount of travel coming up. I have the blue bag and gel packs supplied by the manufacturers. Something I do not understand is why, while the pen is in the blue bag at the correct temperature, this counts as being out of the fridge. Also, 36 hours time out of the fridge, even while in the blue bag, cumulatively for each 28 dose pen does not leave room for much flexibility. Apparently long haul flights are out of the question as the gel packs have to be replaced after 11 hours. None of this was made clear to me before I started this medication and it will severely restrict my lifestyle.

Hi

I am in the uk and have the blue bag with two gel packs

I am on my 9 pen and I feel that I am constantly checking temperature even when travelling in our car

I bought a sensor that I put in the blue box with injection

It connects to my iPhone and alarm goes off if the temperature drops below 2 or higher than 8

At first I thought the sensor was faulty as even in a car journey of Hour and half the alarm goes off either telling me it’s to hot or to cold

So I bought a fridge thermometer to check the reading while I am at home and injection in my fridge

My sensor and thermometer read the same so I am at a total loss

I cancelled my holiday abroad as I felt I couldn’t enjoy myself having to keep the pen at the right temperature

I know other people seem to travel all over the world with the injection

I am considering leaving the sensor out of the blue bag when travelling in the car as I am a nervous wreck at the end of our journey With the alarm keep going off

I hope you manage to travel ok with yours

Thank you for all this information. It appears that the blue box plus gel packs doesn't keep to the required temperature constantly, so the manufacturers are being cautious about transporting the pen in it. Halfords do an electric in-car coolbox which claims to keep cool up to 18C below ambient temperature which might be OK on not especially warm days. halfords.com/camping-leisur... I just looked again at the instructions with the Blue bag and it states that temperatures above 25C can affect your medication. Well, even with a variable temperature in the bag, the pen wouldn't be exposed to anything approaching 25C so I really do not understand why they are making tings so difficult.

I’ve been on Forteo for a year doesn’t matter if you travel and miss a few days there is a new drug in the US which does not require refrigeration is basically the same as for forteo perhaps you should look it.
