I am taking Vitabiotics ultra Vitamin D 1000 IU which my dietician said is quite high and advised me to take every other day. I have to take them as I have just had blood tests done by the dr which showed I am low in Vit D. I have Osteoporosis but am treating it the natural way. I will be retested in 3 months so will only know if they work then. However it definitely says Gluten-Free on the box. I bought these from Tesco.

Thanks. I need to find a proven one. I have just used Dlux spray 3000 iu's/day, for 3 months and my D level did not change at all! 54 mnol/l.
I have upped it to 4000 iu's, but don't trust it now, so am looking for another.
I am no expert, but if you are deficient, I would advise a higher dose to bump it up.
Thanks Zepo. I have a lower level than you (35) so will be very interested to see if the one I'm taking works. If not I will do as you say and try a higher dose. It's so hard to find effective GF supplements isn't it. X
I take Drs Best D3 which states gluten free. I buy it from the internet. It’s in easy to swallow, gel capsules. Even though it’s pre dissolved in oil, I still take it with a fat containing meal to aid absorption. I get my D level checked twice a year.
I needed to take the 5000 IU strength to reach an optimal level of 170 nmol/L. I can usually maintain this level by taking 2000 IU.
I was laxed about taking the 2000 IU daily, last summer, assuming I would be making it via the sun, unfortunately I didn’t realise that as you get older, I’m 70, this doesn’t necessarily happen and my level dropped to about 100 nmol/L. I therefore went back on the 5000 IU for the winter.
I plan on getting my blood level checked in the next week or 2 and will then alter my dose accordingly.

You need Vit d every day not every other day.
The supplements I am heading towards are:
10,000 iu vit d3 in soy free oil not 1,000!!!!!
100 mcg vit k2 mk7
And at bedtime 400 - 600 mg of magnesium glycinate.
this Apparently should get vit d to optimal in three months
There’s a Facebook group “vit d deficiency U.K.” if you can get access to it. Lots of success stories there.

Thanks. I read yesterday that for every 1000 iu of D, we need 100 mcg K. Someone else said that 100 K is OK no matter how much D we take. So now I don't know what is right! :/

I take 200 mcg of K2 mk7 and 5 mg of mk4. I agree it’s confusing. Is a case of trial and error and working out what’s fits in best with our personal routine and how much we can afford to spend!
K2 mk4 is one of the standard OP treatments in Japan at a dose of 45mg per day. This is taken as 3 split doses of 15 mg, spread out during the day. This is because mk4 has a short half life of a few hrs. Living in the UK, this dosage would work out really expensive.
Several knowledgeable folk on the NOF Forum say that mk4, still helps bones at low doses of around 3 to 5 mg.
I have no ‘carved in stone’ references to back this up.
All the original K2 trials were done on Mk4 in Japan. Whether their genetic and cultural differences influence their treatment success rates, is again unclear.
One of their mk4 researchers was also recently discredited, so this has upset folk, although the other researchers appear to be reliable and above suspicion.
Folk have divided opinions over which form of K2 is best. I’ve continued to take both mk7 and low dose mk4 to be on the ‘safe’ side.
Unfortunately as with most supplements apart from D3, ( which I can monitor my blood level for) I have no proof that they contain what the label states, or that I’m absorbing them, never mind whether they are helping my bones. All I can say is that I haven’t broken bones since 2010, Touch Wood!
All you can do is keep reading, make up your own mind about what to take, a most importantly, avoid falling over!
