I got pain pretty much immediately with AA and it got worse over 3 weeks. I gave it 3 weeks rest and then retried with a different formulation (ie different manufacturer) I've been ok for the first week apart from a numb tongue.

If you ring the NOS helpline they will give useful advice. 0808 800 0035

See how it is tomorrow and if it has spread could be just a Coincidence but probably related xx

Hi Lolly

My bone pains started approximately 6 weeks after starting AA. They felt how I remembered the ‘growing pains’ felt as a child. I then started getting repeat symptoms of an ulcer that I’d previously suffered from. I finally stopped taking the AA after 10 weeks.

Having said that, I know several folk who have been on AA many yrs and not had any problems! Unfortunately you usually find that it’s mainly the folk who have problems, who visit these Forums. The rest don’t need to. We therefore don’t get a balanced view.

Hi lynneH-19

I think your totally right I'm just reading your reply after taking my second AA so I'm keeping all crossed don't know what to do otherwise, I have a friend whose an intensive care nurse spoke to her she says she was diagnosed with PMR five years ago offered AA read all about it and said no thank you, she didn't have a dexa scan and so far OK but as she said that's her choice she may regret it later on!!! Thank you for your reply as a matter of interest did you try anything else?? x

Hi Lynne well so far so good have taken AA seems OK so far, I will see how things go I've heard lots of good things about the strontium which is typical why the NHS would stop doing don't get it at all I will persevere while I'm OK BUT keep in mind the problems yes my scan showed OP-2-5 in spine osteopenia in left hip taking calcium from sainsbury not constipating so badly D3 and a K2 supplement, I had a fall from stairs flat on back into hard kitchen floor in 2015 soo lucky didn't break anything and hit back of head so I'll be keeping it all crossed take care Lynne two wrists my god that's hard that's what scares me into taking something x

Hi Lolly

After breaking both wrists in one fall in 2010, I finally got the DEXA scan that I had been asking my GP to request for several yrs, after previously landing on my bum in the house and injuring my coccyx. The technician confirmed I had OP and said I would eventually receive a GP referral to see their clinic Consultant for treatment, because of my ulcer history.

While I was waiting weeks for my GP to receive my DEXA results, I joined the NOS / Forum and decided I wanted Strontium Ranelate. I knew that I wasn’t a candidate for AA due to a previous bleeding duodenal ulcer.

When I finally saw my GP, not only did she refuse to refer me, but she also refused me the SR and insisted I tried AA. I was in such a state of nerves because my Mam and Nan had broken their hip/ femur due to OP, that I allowed her to browbeat me into trying it.

When I stopped taking AA, I had already started visiting the NOF forum, so I then started taking Drs Best Strontium Bone Maker ie Strontium citrate which I bought from the internet. I was happy with it, but after a few months my Hubby was worried about me taking it, so eventually dragged me back to my GP.

Once again she refused to prescribe SR. But she did agree to get me a referral to see a NHS Consultant.

The Consultant agreed that I could have SR, because she was unhappy with me taking unregulated Strontium from the Internet. She also said I could have a repeat DEXA scan after 2 yrs to make sure it was working.

As you can imagine my GP wasn’t happy. This was in 2011 and haven’t see her since. I’ve been on SR via a repeat prescription ever since.

I have a few months supple left and have no idea what to try now that’s is no longer made. I already take D3, Mg, cod liver oil for A retinol and K2 Mk7 and mk4, as my main supplements.

Best wishes
