Just like more information,as I'm Worried.

Hi All, I am on another couple of forums. But I've joined this one because I'm not to clear on this condition called Osteoperosis. Now I've had it for over 5yrs,but I must say I've never known any problem with it. I used to have the 6 monthly injections,and had no problem at all.

Then in May I broke my arm in a fall,the fall I had would have broken anyone's arm,so I did not put it down to Osteoperosis. Well come July I was due another injection but when they knew I broke my arm,I was told I couldn't have it no more,because it was doing no good. Now take into consideration anyone would have broke an arm,the way I fell on slabs. So I was given Forsteo (Teriparatide) injections to take every day.

After a couple of months I noticed my stomach pain had got worse,( I suffer chronic stomach pain) so I discussed this with my nurse,and she said to leave them off for a while,so I started them back up just after Christmas,but my stomach was unbearable,so she said leavethem off completely,until she could see me,which will be March.

Not knowing the sighns of Osteoperosis,I don't know if taking nothing at the moment is the effect of some of the suffering I'm now having. E.g. Pain in the top of my left leg,after watching TV at night,when I go to bed,my hubby has to help me,my legs turn to jelly and won't hold me,also pain in my shoulders,but only at bed time too.

Could anyone advise me on how it feels to suffer with Osteoperosis as I have no idea,I just know my body hasn't been right since they stoped my 6monthly injections.

Sorry for the long post,I was just trying to be as clear as I can. I am grateful for any information you can give me.

Osteoporosis does not make one feel ill as far as I am aware and it is only if one starts to lose height or fracture, either from a fall or not, that one is referred for a DEXA scan and it is found out that way. The medications prescribed can produce side effects though, some bad enough to have to discontinue with the drug. It may be a good idea if you read about the possible side effects of Forsteo as muscle cramps or spasms, leg cramps and joint pain are amongst them. Stomach pain is found among people who take Forsteo, especially for people who are female, 60+ old.

Firstly I would like to say thank you for replying to my post Kaarina.

I started with Rheumatoid Arthritis firstly,then a few years later I was just told they were scanning me for Osteoperosis,I never question why,but turned out I had it anyway. At the time I was going through no end of tests to try and sort my stomach pain out,and I was given a tablet for the Osteoperosis,not being to sure,because my stomach was so bad,I talked to my GP,who said no way,and put me in for the injections twice a year,which up until July last year I was having with no problem. But breaking my wrist in May,from a fall on slabs,which I think anyone would have done,not just because I had Osteoperosis. I was told to use her words "my bones were shot" and I could not have that injections anymore. As I say the Forsteo kills my stomach,and I am seeing my nurse in March. But me and my hubby thought if I'm feeling nothing from Osteoperosis,maybe I could go without anything. And the reason for this is I take so many Meds,if I can get away with useing less,I would be happy. Because even though some are life savers,they can't be doing my tum much good.

Hi Gemini, it could be that some of the RA drugs you have been taking could have unfortunately helped to weaken your bones. Steroids can weaken bones if taken over a long period of time as can Omeprazole, which is a stomach protector. Having low Vitamin D levels will not help either. If i was you I would give the helplines a call and speak with a nurse. I have not done this but know of people that have been greatly helped by having a chat with one of them. The call is free from landlines and mobiles.

Hi Kaarina,I know steroids weaken bones,but even so I can't get away from them. I also have Emphysema so in the past I've had quite a few steroids that have been life savers. But I've not actually had steroids in that way for 12-13yrs. But obviously they are in my inhalers. I probably will give the helplines a call,for peace of mind.
