I am so sorry about the loss of your dad and know how difficult the HCC journey is as I lost my husband June 2021 after 27 months of battling HCC. He was not screened for it, although I now know he had several risk factors, including type 2 insulin dependent diabetes. You are already honoring your dad by your posts and by sharing the diabetes guidelines which raise awareness of this as a downplayed risk factor. Through Advocacy by HCC patients and caregivers, and the wonderful Blue Faery foundation, I'm hopeful importance of screening and guidelines for that Will be advanced. I now have a brother diagnosed with cirrhosis and NASH Who has no history of alcohol use only type two diabetes and obesity, and his forward thinking G.I. referred him to Vanderbilt, who is monitoring him for HCC through doing periodic, AFP, labs, ultrasounds, and scans, and mentions in their notes specifically that they are monitoring for HCC. That is encouraging to see. Thank you so much for sharing the guidelines and prayers for you as you grieve the loss of your father and try to advance awareness!🙏🏻❤️ Bonnie
Hi Bonnie. So glad that your brother is being screened for HCC. I lost a cousin to it about a year before Jimmy was diagnosed. She had absolutely none of the normal risk factors associated with it but had Type 2 Diabetes and had been overweight most of her life. Unfortunately when they discovered hers, it was already advanced. She had gallstones and they just happened to see it on one of the tests prior to gallbladder surgery. Hope you are doing well. Sending love and hugs your way my friend.❤️❤️❤️Sharon ❤️
Thank you for sharing these. We lost my cousin Linda to HCC in January 2020. She had never drank, smoked, or used any drugs. She did have Type 2 Diabetes and she was overweight. They discovered it when she was having tests for gallstones. She had chemo for a year and stopped because it was making her so sick but having little effect on the cancer. She passed away 6 months later. She had never been screened or even had the possibility of HCC mentioned. It's so important that not only do we raise awareness of HCC but also raise awareness that it's not always a result or related to alcohol, drug use, or Hepatitis C. Thank you again for sharing and you're in my prayers. ❤️🙏❤️
