Understanding liver cysts or mass

Im new and I’m trying to understand this. I had an issue five years ago . Was told I had a 3 cm cyst on left and one on right. With a smaller one in one I think. But no worries. Recently by chance a CT saw them still, which seems fine. But it called one s cyst and one solid mass . Both still 3 cm. I have been told I just have cysts in liver, other smaller I’m guessing.

Is it worth a biopsy if that’s what they suggest? I go to discuss the MRI then so must not be a hurry, right?

Thanks for any advice. No other symptoms that led to discovery.

I would encourage you to see a liver specialist familiar with HCC to review your films and discuss if films are sufficient to be sure you don't have a mass--you mention CT and MRI--if you have only had CT, you may want to ask about having an MRI that is specific to the liver as my understanding is those have features that can be diagnostic for HCC and are superior to some CT scans. It's certainly positive that there's no change in size but you are being proactive to question the change in terminology and seek more diagnostics and answers now. Best of luck to you you!!!

Thanks, finally saw actual radiologist report. Probably benign 3.3 cm posterior right lobe liver lesion. Could be a complex

cyst or benign hepatic neoplasm. Metastatic disease, primary liver malignancy

also considered, although unlikely given lack of enhancement.

I am guessing it will be ok.

My husband’s MRIs indicated “suspicious for” and “suggestive of” HCC. The “Impression” part of the MRI report will give you and your doctor a pretty good idea of what’s going on. His first biopsy tissue was benign, no cancer. The liver doctor said go get another biopsy and tell the interventional radiologist to sample more than one lesion this time, which he did. Both these lesions were positive for HCC. I hope you will get a copy of the MRI and look up all the words that make no sense. A biopsy is definitely “worth it” if your diagnostic images are inconclusive. It was an eye-opener to me that we could tell the interventional radiologist what we wanted him to do rather than hope for the best. Best wishes!
