looking for support from younger ppl on here I’m just 53 and finding it so hard I didn’t expect this till I was at least past retirement age.The senior members on here unfortunately think cause I’m young I must be obese lazy smoke my head off and drink loads none of that is further from the truth! I’m gym hard cardio lift weights walk absolutely everywhere unfortunately I was very recently diagnosed with high bp which after 3 months is not controlled.I need ppl who are of a similar age to myself who I have more in common with and are less judgemental. The moderators on here need to stop other members badgering on about you need to overhaul your lifestyle diet or exercise more they are NOT gp’s and for some ppl diet or exercise maybe dangerous!

well Rammylass17 I was only a couple of years older than you when I was diagnosed with high BP. In those days I went to the gym three mornings a week before work, non-smoker etc. And my diet was good.

Without knowing what anybody’s lifestyle is, the general advice is for people to look at what can be improved - surely there’s nothing wrong with that? And to point them to helpful websites written by those in the know, such as Blood Pressure UK?

Absolutely the members of this forum are NOT medically trained. To offer medical advice would be contrary to the ethics of this forum

I also am in that same boat. 50-something fit, very active & great diet.It is alarming to discover, out of the blue, high bp. Even more alarming to find there is not much room for lifestyle and diet improvement.

It would be so much easier to be able to just diet away 2 or 3 stone and start exercising...which so often suggested.

I considered myself as looking to avoid exactly this situation.

Very frightening.

All we can do is go full on Sting ?

I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure & High cholesterol at 45. Like you I thought I was fit as a fiddle . At the time I had an excellent GP who after trying a couple of medications which didn’t work, referred me to a cardiologist who prescribed medication…….. I still take that medication today at 83 & it hasn’t stopped me doing anything.

So ignore the remarks take the meds & get on with your life.

Hi Hidden, Yes there are quite a few of holier than thou folk on this site, and sometimes it is just about bad luck or genetics that we have BP. Of course people can help themselves, I know that, but I get where you are coming from.

I was 53 when diagnosed. Was a gym goer, runner, not overweight, non smoker, occasional drinker . Apparently the cause of mine is genetic , all my cousins from the same side of the family have it, all diagnosed in their 40s and 50s. The previous generation on the same side had it too. Best wishes 😊

Hi Tia support, was 50 when first diagnosed with high BP, been living with it since then and controlling it thru increasing medication…..now 18 years later I am still fighting the good fight…..BP in my case is genetic…..come from a long line of BP induced stroke relatives…… was fit at fifty …..so lifestyle or fitness was not the answer is my case…..sometimes you can’t escape the “501,s” otherwise knows as genes (jeans).

HI Sideeffectssam I think the OP has now removed themselves from the forum so they won't interact with any replies. That's why their name is now 'hidden'.

Love the comparison to 501s 😂 my B/P the same but I live comfortably with it for many years.
