I’m posting after mediation number 4 is just not working .I have always always exercised eat healthy odd treat never ever smoked very low alcohol meds won’t allow it walked everywhere never had a car in my 53 yrs. While the smug select few on here have managed to get their bp down just BE KIND to them of us that have tried absolutely EVERYTHING I don’t need to feel bad I punish myself 24/7 for my tia’s high bp.Thought that this group was supposed to be supportive and caring maybe but some use it to put others down. Very judgemental attitude by a select few .How many times I am a normal weight go to the gym 3/4 times every week and STILL have high bp.Lucky lucky you if yours is in the “normal” range mine unfortunately isn’t 😢👎

Hi!

My BP went up at the age about 45. Lately (72 yo now) am always between say 160/70 and 180/80, but do not feel guilty about that. From the start, I have refused medication since I would never know how bad or how good they are for the body (yes, I know the story about getting the stroke, but I do not buy scaremongering easily - the real cause of stroke has yet to be disclosed).

Strangely, I feel and function far better than my friends who keep taking medication to hold their BP down.

Here something that might help you feel better:

Thank you for posting❤️Taking blood pressure tablets that have side effects is so frustrating. The doctors do not listen to you and treat you like your a burden.Even on my blood pressure tablets i still get a reading of 150s /90s .Reading your post reassures the most that battle with the medication.your still here at the age of 72🥰when i was diagnosed 5 years ago i thought i was going to drop down 😬I’ve over the years relaxed because it would cripple me with Anxiety worrying. Then come the terrible side effects on tablets .Im happy taking a low dose with the reading i mentioned.Im happy with my choice and it is my choice.Everyone has a choice on how they deal with high blood pressure.I also choose to try to eat healthy and swim hoping that im helping myself that way .

So glad, you liked my comment. Scaremongering is widely used to make people use medications. When we get elderly and have increased BP, usually there are no symptoms, but, after the check at the GP, we get strongly advised to use medications since high BP is "very dangerous".

In fact, high BP is nothing else than the sign of disturbed Autonomous Nervous System and, per se, is not causing any health issue but is causing increased strain on blood vessels. If we take 120/80 to be "golden value", then increased BP to the level of 150/100 is only an increase by 25%, meaning not significant at all. The bursting pressure of the blood vessels is at the level of 250/170 (individual, of course, but my uncle got 3 strokes in one day at such level and passed away). I got the medication prescribed 7 years ago but have not taken a single pill of it. My body, my right to gamble, but also to protect it!

I am 50 in 2 weeks and that last statement rang so true to me ❤️

err that's just a a mathematical increase, the increase in risk is exponential & far more significant. completely agree on personal choice in these matters but base your decision on facts not a convenient statistic.

It is not statistics, it is basic mathematics... You say exponential? With what exponent, if really so? You have no idea, like who told you so has not the idea... Never trust those who are selling to you, whatever it is. Their goal is the money and not your wellbeing. Just look at the story with the latest jabs.

Hi, my high BP came down with keto and disappeared on the lion diet (an elimination way of eating) that is only salt, beef and water. With me sugar is the culprit and it's in all carbs. Elimating this got my BP down. Try eliminating certain food products from your diet and keep away from anything with a list of ingredients.

in reply toCollywobbles64

Good morning. Thanks for the reply unfortunately this diet is not for me as can’t have salt and don’t eat red meat at all anymore mainly plant based diet mostly grains and tons of veg never really a meat eater before tia and bp probs.Feeling a bit more positive this morning after tons of cuddles of my hubby the best cure for any health issues is a hug from a loved one and ignoring ppl who don’t know you and think your obese or lazy if you have high bp etc or you must be very very old WRONG I’m not obese or even overweight definitely not lazy walk everywhere don’t have the luxury of ever having a car and 53 is nowhere near geriatric if I even get to retirement at least 14 yrs I will be eternally grateful one day at a time is now my motto.Happy Saturday to you x

Hi Rammylass glad you are feeling a bit better I agree there are people on this site who dont even read the comment/questions I had asked reply's like ask your doctor or pharmacy dont help anyone as the reason we are on the site asking questions is because most of the doctors dont either know or dont care but most people like you and myself on here have struggled with tablets and side effects and are generally very helpful and kind on these sites ( and I believe this site is a really good site and I am greatful for it) but you are always going to get the few who have not had any problems getting their BP under control and think we are all the same or doing something wrong say on the site because people like you help the rest of us realise we are not alone or unique and together we can suceed and one thing which may be helpful is I was obsessed with the the 120/80 number research this and you will find out alot of the top heart surgeons dont belive this number is for everyone we are all different have a lovely day God Bless

Morning! Glad you are feeling a bit better today. Just a thought as I have similar problems to you as previously mentioned. Do you sleep well? I am an insomniac but last night in desperation a took a Nytol (not suggesting you or anyone else does though) and my BP was 109/79 this morning. I am sure this is my issue but can't take sleeping tabs every night. Any tips anyone? Just interested to know what other people think. All the best Rammylass17 it's a long road.

Rammylass 17, I am not going to judge you, because I am pretty much in the same boat as you. I have tried just about every BP med that ever was made, and I am intolerant to them all. So don't feel bad at all, cut yourself some slack. You walk everywhere, don't smoke dont drink and go to the gym. Can I ask does the meds make you feel awful ?

in reply totykesammy

Hey the meds make me worse than the actual bp that I didn’t know I had till my Tia 18 months back vertigo no good at gym headaches blured vision all these are getting better the ramprill cough was the pits was only on it 8 weeks 3 weeks on and still tickly.Take care x

Hi Rammylass, so sorry you have felt upset at people's attitudes towards you. We try to help and not judge. Many over 50's have high blood pressure and the meds we take work for us. Sadly this is not true for others who for various reasons find they have problems with the meds. The only thing I would suggest is that you return to your G P and ask for help. I left my high bp untreated and years later I discovered my heart was enlarged due to neglecting to take the meds. Please don't do the same. Take care Maximonkey

Good morning, My BP has been improving since I began working about no worrying about it. High blood pressure is a symptom not a disease. My anxiety really contributed to the hypertension. I will keep doing everything I can, but work on not agonizing over it! I wish you all the best in your journey.

Same here. I'm very sensitive to a number of meds. I excercise, eat well etc but, made to feel I'm doing something wrong. I have ckd too now so, being pushed to take statins with which I've experienced awful side effects so, I now refuse to take them. That doesn't go down well with doctors either. Apparently, ckd is one of the fasted growing illnesses worldwide. Sri Lanka has a massive increase in ckd unrelated to Bp apparently. Who knows what the heck is going on with the food and water industries?

I take Lercanidipine 20mg daily. Half in the morning and half at night. Bp is still high. I'm to see a nephrologist at the end of the month. So, we'll see????
