After taking 10mg Lercandipine,25mg Losartan & 20 mg Propranolol daily without problems for the last year I am now having terrible problems and am at my wits end. I take Lercandipine in the morning but Every day around 5pm the hot flushes start along with headaches and my BP shoots up. This has happened for the last 6 weeks and throw my life into chaos. Once it starts it’s a whole evening lost. I’ve seen the GP so many times , been to A&E and even seen a cardiologist privately. He just recommended a “pill in the pocket” Doxasozin to take when I feel the flushing etc coming on .but that’s too late . Has anyone had this problem please? Does it mean I’m under medicated.? I was taking 50mg of Losartan until 4 months ago but reduced it due to headaches. I’ve started bringing my. Bedtime meds ie Losartan forward but this makes no difference and has an effect on next days BP readings.

I’ve been on 10mg of Lercandipine for the last year .without problem. Started on 20 but doc reduced it to 10 due to palpitations. i ve even gone back to 20mg in the last week but it has made no difference and the palpitations have been awful.I don’t even know if the is responsible or the Losartan . Doc just advised me to increase the Propranolol to 20x2 daily and that’s not made any difference.

Apologies for this rather garbled post but I’m nearly at breakdown point.Thankyoufor reading.

There is quite a discussion going on at present among the medical bods about the correct BP to aim for and the amount of medication to use to manage it.

Basically ,the consensus is to only use enough meds to keep BP at 130 or 140 over 70 or 80. Depending on your age.

It is to avoid using so many meds that it is they ,that cause more problems than the actual high BP.

ie-- if the doctor is trying to get you to 120/80 by giving so many meds, then that may be why you are having such problems???

Does that make any sense to you?

Maybe you could chat to your doctor about getting to a better balance?

Good luck.

hello myrtle13,

Sounds like a very difficult situation for you, sounds like a cocktail of medication you have to take. I really wonder sometimes which is worse, the higher readings or the side effects of the meds, I also take lercanidipine 10mg (sometimes 20), I also find the side effects horrendous, I'm not sure what the answer is but I am convinced after 5 years of various meds that, bp meds are the most awful things, I know they are necessary sometimes , I think the gp approach is vital, and if he/she takes a holistic approach it's most helpful,

Surely if you have an open chat with your gp he/she should have a better approach, is a second opinion an option for you?

I wish you the best.
