I can find no literature which backs up your assertion.

All the studies indicate that hypertensive individuals are better off taking BP meds ,rather than not.

Obviously it is an individual choice for each person.

I recon it's best to take them though rather than not to.

up to you what you think is best for your own health,id rather do it naturally, keeping fit and eating healthy, but i never take bp

If you do your research correctly, you'll find that some people need to take meds due to genetic predisposition. Regardless of lifestyle optimization or not they would still need to take medications.

Hello,

After reading this, I have to admit , you really scared me. I am 45 and recently on meds for BP. If I dont take them I get headaches and my BP gets really high. Sometimes we gave to be careful what we write here as some ppl are very vulnerable and they might stop taking their meds. That could be life threatening for them. I agree that ppl live longer with controlled BP rather then uncontrolled. I will continue taking my meds.

no one knows how long we are going to live, just do and take what you think is best for you, a bit young at 45 to be on bp pills arnt you

Yes I agree I am young to be on meds, I went to the hospital for weakness and feeling very unwell. There I was told my bp was 230/180. Back at my doctors I had the 24 hour BP testing. Was still elevated. I am on 100 mg of Losartan.

did they find out why your bp was so high or just give u pills to bring it down, the problem is still there ,the pills just treat the symptoms not the cause,

I am under the care of a cardiologist. Had tests on my kidneys and heart. Waiting on a review. Hoping all is well. I'm trying to eat healthy and lose weight. I'm not too big. Slightly above average.

My BP may be stress related too.

I hope you find answers Tiffin, and I would certainly carry on following the guidance of the medical professionals not some bloke off the internet who doesn't know you or your circumstances! I think our friend Peter is just trying to stir up (unhelpful) conversation here!

No, he is not too young. There are people much, much younger with high bp.

Anecdotal statements are very damaging. Dr Peter Attia, to quote one medical professional, states that high BP should be treated aggressively and is extremely damaging to health if left unchecked. Without providing further evidence or citing and actual website/post this sort of post is very unhelpful to those suffering with high BP.

Not to mention a naive viewpoint to have given all the bodies of evidence out there that state high BP is a killer.

Well peter999999999,

Thats a good question , heres something to ponder if you did not go to GP then you would not know if you had high BP. I've been taking Bp tablets on and off for years since in my twenty's, I am allergic to the main BP tablets but they have found one that does seem to work and after several months my Bp has dropped from over 200 down to 130 everyones experience is different. Keep up the good work on research findings.

i wish i had never gone, it was a well clinic thing,i had one at 60 then at 70, at 60 my bp was 161/90 at 70 it was 172/90, they scared me then it kept going up the more i took it lol.so id done 10 years at around 160 to 170 with no ill effects fit as a fiddle, thought bp pills would not hurt me how wrong was i, they nearly killed me, so i now dont take it i go 100 plus age it works for me, 120/80 id fall over.if you feel well you are well, id never checked bp in my life before or pulse and that shot up as well. good knows what they do to your body, kineys, heart, brain they effect them all and not in a good way,why so you think if you on ramaprill you have to keep habving blood test,to see if your kidneys are working.

That sounds like a very misleading study.Chances are that many people on bp meds have comorbidities, as many people over 70 do so can't necessarily point the finger at the meds.I know people who are in their 80s or even 90s who have been on bp meds since their 30s and are still going strong as they look after themselves and the hypertension was kicked off by pregnancy not lifestyle. In my case I would probably be dead without meds as my bp was in the stratosphere.I'm sticking with the meds thanks Peter.

hypertension is the body's way of dealing with pathology within the body, and is its way of adapting to the stress within. To me, lowering blood pressure with drugs is mere window dressing, and merely a way to show the docs that you have conformed to the normal blood pressure range. Meanwhile, the pathological condition festers and worsens over time. At best, the blood pressure medication will simply leave the condition to worsen by itself. At worse, the medication will actually worsen and deepen the condition, or effect grave collateral damage, read that but it does make you wonder why they dont treat the cause, good money in selling pills for a lifetime, its like dye for grey hair, its still there

I’d disagree with you, Peter, and say that hypertension has many causes and taking pills to reduce the pressure to normal replaces what the body should be doing for itself. Once you’ve sorted out the lifestyle issues of course.
