Hi! Couple of days ago, I measured the same BP as you - 170/120. It seams to be a solide ground for panicking, but if you know that the BP is a parameter to change not from day to day, but from minute to minute, than you should cool down as the first. Analyse what could have contributed to this (temporrary) increase of BP. In my case, it was a period of 7 days, in which I was building the fence, together with a bricklayer. All the organization of works and the pressure to accomplish it despite problematic weather, were enough to give this BP increase. After a few days, I am again on 150/100, what is kinda "normal" for me...

I am 70, with increased BP since the age of about 45 (it is mostly the time when we start having problems, not only with BP), but refuse to take any medication. My best friend, who is UNI professor of anathomy, started having this issues at the same time and warmly advised to me to take medication. I refused, since I am slightly stubborn and have my own views of life. Now, after 25 years, she got addicted to drugs and can not live without them, whereas I am still OK. Can you immagine what quantity of medications she has put through her kidneys in the meantime!? We can only guess about the consequences... So sad!

Always follow how you feel, not what the drug dealers (MDs in this case) are offering to you.

TFTR, the person who responded to you first is not, I think, in the UK, so procedures may be different.

Unless your doc suspects there is something underlying your high pressure then there would not likely to be more tests. In our western society high blood pressure seems to go with age - I first had high pressures at your age.

Don’t panic!

Please, do one or both of these things:

1. Go to the website of Blood Pressure UK.

2. Go to the website of NHS and put hypertension into their search box.

I think all this will reassure you but when you’ve absorbed it all do come back to us on this forum or send me a message through it.
