New to blood pressure medication.

I am new to this forum and have very recently been prescribed Amlodipine m5g for the first time. They are the Teva brand.

I also take Levothyroxine and am allergic to the Teva brand.

The coatings are the problem .

I don't know if the coating is the same for their Amlodipine.

What are alternative brands?

I take Mercury Pharma Levothyroxine which suits me.

Has anyone had similar concerns?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I was also on Amlodipine 5mg but brand name was crescent.

Due to leg pain whilst being on them I went down to 2.5mg Amlodipine that is by Bristol lab. It's not enough and BP is raised still but until I can find something that agrees with me then I am stuck.

Wishing you luck in finding something that agrees with you.

Have you ever looked at plant based methods.Olive leaf extract or Flaxseed oil….both work by increasing nitric oxide in the blood…which relaxes arteries which are muscular tubes…only to the point of normal blood pressure.Quite safe to include with any medications….no nasty side effects.

Any food that increases nitric oxide will do the same thing.

I have never thought about plant based methods, I will look into it and research. Willing to try anything so thank you.

This is one your pharmacist might well be able to answer.

There are quite a few members on the Thyroid forum who have had adverse reactions to Teva levothyroxine and it appears to be the Mannitol they use instead of lactose that causes the problem. When they change to a other brand they are fine.

Teva amlodipine doesn't contain Mannitol (I used to take amlodipine).

Thanks. If it is Mannitol I should be OK. Only second day in so I will monitor. So far only slight headache on waking that goes once I'm up.

I hope all goes well for you. I was on Teva Amlodipine for a few years and never had any problems with it at all.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I take amlodipine 5mg and am absolutely fine with Teva - in fact it's the brand that I always ask for. I am very sensitive to meds and the excipients but have always been fine with Teva.

When I first started taking amlodipine two years ago I was given Istin which was the original, non-generic and used that for a few months but there were supply issues and the pharmacy were unable to source any so I changed to Teva without any issues whatsoever.

I hope that helps.

Thank you jackdaw50, I had to come off amlodopine but never thought of it being the coating, should have as I had a problem with another tablet that had a blue coating. I am having problems with the different spirava they use now its so difficult to open and get the capsule out of the wrapping, tiogiva think its called made in Europe. Anyway nice to meet you never heard of any problems for others taking amlodopine guess your GP could change it to a different manufacturer or even the chemist if you use a regular chemist. Good luck.

FDA would never run a trial on any that can be grown cheaply using soil and water...they are only interested in making money by using manmade concoctions...Ridiculous to compare plant based treatments that are basically food sources that increase nitric oxide and safe short or lng term to toxic pharmaceuticals that do damage the kidneys and liver in long term studies...taking potassium with kidney disease is asking for trouble...Dr my cat.

Thank you , I had a reaction to the coating on a vitamin D pill which was blue. My GP said its up to you whether you take it as my blood test said my Vitamin D was normal.Plus we can get vitamin D pills from herbalists many of which have no coating.

Congress is in the pocket of big pharma...yes if foods and plants were poisonous ordangerous towards health you would think the Food and Drugs Adminstration would say something to that effect....but they never do...because we already know which plants are poisonous...we have Rockerfeller and Carnegie to thank for every medicalstudent being brain washed into believing that plants do nothing to heal...and the answer only ever lies withbig pharma productions alongwith the multitude of side effects....that they ALWAYS give ..btw...suggesting potassium to lower bp may work in 50 % but its down right dangerous for those with kidney disease....much better to eat a balanced diet and avoid things that increase inflammation...such as omega 6 oils and high corn fructose...two things the FDA approved for gods sake!

Agreed no concrete evidence that extra Vitamin D is good for us or details of whats in the herbal substitutes
