Fluctuating BP when home vs away

Hi everyone, anyone got any ideas on my situation….

Discovered my bp was too high last November (190/120 Avg) and been trying various combinations of meds since then. I’m 46 male and have also lost 1 stone since (bmi now 26), reduced alcohol and caffeine consumption, increased excercise, improved diet, which wasn’t unhealthy anyway.

I average 135/96 now on 7.5 Ramipril, 5mg Amlodipine and 2.5 Bisoprolol. 24hr monitor 6 weeks ago readings were 128/88, although that was 20mg Lercandipine rather than the amlodipine which I’ve gone back to.

My problem is I’ve been measuring bp twice a day everyday since November (with 3 week exception this last month) and when I’m away from home, uk or abroad, just not at home, it’s always lower, last 5 days whilst away Avg 127/90, this morning, back at home 141/100!

I work part time remotely so still do this while away and it’s not stressful, I have a nice relaxed home environment so nothing that should make me anxious about taking readings.

I just can’t understand it! Any ideas?

its normal to keep going up/down, esp if you keep doing it all the time, every 6 months is enough, i never do it ,but dont take pills either,

I’d love to not be taking them too and hope one day that’ll be the case…

I’m wondering why too! Might it be diet? Salt? Hydration?

Maybe have a look at the specialist charity website, Blood Pressure UK.

I’ve tried monitoring and eliminating so many things, and just can’t pin it down, food, drink alcohol, times i excercise etc. I drink fizzy water with sugar free squash at home, quite a lot of it too, when away just plain water, thought I’d cracked it when thought of this but it wasn’t! Only thing I can think is the temperature but surely it wouldn’t make such a difference. It’s a mystery….

Will take another look at website you mentioned , Thankyou :)
