2.5 mg bisoprolol low heart beat

I have given 20 mg of lercanidipine for two years. It helped (daily ranges has been typically for rest 150/99 to 120/82) but now for the past month I have had anxiety and my blood pressure has gone up really high for me (170/110 to 135/88). My heartbeat rate had been typically 120 light movement to 80 for laying on sofa. I have been placed on bisoprolol 2.5mg. It's my first day with it. Two hours ago after taking bisoprolol, my blood pressure is great 136/95 to 122/88. But for the first two hours my heart rate is 70 to 62. I did some moderate exercise to see what would happen. A month ago that exercise would pump up my rate to 139 and take 5 minutes to go down to 90. Ten minutes later down to 80. After moderate exercise this morning after taking bisoprolol my heart rate went up to 120 and two minutes later down to 67. I think it is getting close to dangerous and wonder if I should cut the pills in half?

Firstly, don’t change your medication without doing it under medical supervision, please.

I had a look at earlier posts of yours and especially the replies which I think you found helpful - it might be an idea to go back and read them so you can realign yourself.

The pills where the name ends in “olol” are meant to keep your heart rate down. So they are doing their job, if I’m reading your post right.

Your body has to get used to the changes you are giving it, so I would say you ought to carry on and see what happens, without obsessing about the readings.

don't worry about the numbers, they're fine, after all, this is what the b-blockers do, I've been on these drugs for 4 years, my heart is well controlled, other side effects to be careful of when you're on these pills

Read the Patient Leaflet supplied with the drug- possible adverse effects will be listed on it, along with how often they might occur.

many and various, I don't want to scare you personally, they disturbed my sleep patterns, nightmares, not quality sleep, and added anxiety that I didn't have before and a little depression, I have changed three so far, bisoprolol, nebivolol and now atenolol, the worst for me personally was bisoprolol apnea and headache a lot in this pill what else you want ask me

Oh dear. It's the anxiety that I do not want. That's why they put me on this because my previous heart rate was high 120 to 85 when 'calm'. Now I'm down to 63 the lowest heart rate. Its been like 80 to 60 all day.

and I used to be at rest 88 pulses up to 120 now I'm 60 to 75, I just don't know and I'm looking to find out if these pills besides the heart affect the functioning of the brain

I don't understand what kind of diet is it like this or else I'm thin I'm 173 tall and 75 kg I don't need to diet anymore

Just to clarify - 'diet' does not always mean 'slimming diet', it simply means what you eat. In common parlance, diet and dieting these days is often taken to mean a slimming or weight loss diet, but it doesn't mean that, not on its own as a single word; you might have a vegan diet, a vegetarian diet, a gluten fee diet, a keto diet, or other types of diet, one of which could be a slimming diet.

Your heart rate on bisoprolol sounds fine to me, with the proviso that I am not medically qualified. My resting heart rate is typically low 50s, sometimes it dips down into the high 40s briefly. My cardiologist and EP are both happy with that so I'm not worried. Your bisoprolol is doing its job.

Thank you for that. I guess my concern is that my mother who at the time was 79, was on blood thinners due to afib, went into the hospital when her heart rate was low 40s. She felt weak and faint. They lower the dose of her blood thinner after that.

When you're on Bisoprolol you can expect your heart rate to slow. That's one of the ways the medication works to ease the burden on your heart. A heart rate of around 63 is what you should expect and is nothing to worry about.

Thank you for responding back.My bp readings have been an unbelievable 122/83 which I think I had when I was a teenager like 40 years ago. But the heart rate was 54 after a bit of house cleaning (nothing serious) which I doubt I ever had sitting up. That sounds like I should be in a sleep. So what is too low of a heart rate if I do moderate exercise 45 minutes a day and am slim 8.5 stones?
