Ramipril

Hi, I have Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) and on warfarin because of repeated clots in my lungs and just started ramipril for high blood pressure. My question is I am having the side effect of pins and needles since starting the high blood pressure medication ramipril. Only when I sleep in hands, it wakes me up.

I’ll mention to my go doctor but does anyone have any experience in this side effect ? Is it a circulation or nerve side effect. I’m worried that it a blood circulation issue that may induce more clotting . My blood pressure is stable on the medicine so don’t want to give it up unless I have to . I don’t have a APS specialist doctor .. just a regular U.K. GP doctor.

Hi, the first month of ramipril 2.5 was good no side effects but blood pressure stayed high. 160/90 was common. Doc doubled dose. It was horrible. I suffered panic attacks immediately and almost daily which was scary since I never had one before and didn’t understand what was happening. . Anxiety was overwhelming. I told doc to find another .. she was adamant ramipril doesn’t cause panic attacks . I was put on Amlodipine and the anxiety went immediately.., over night . I can drive a car and do normal things again. The dose has increased from 5 to 7.5 and things seem ok so far . I started jogging and noticed one mile of jogging round the park lowers my pressure for the day and I feel good. Ramipril was poison for me . Amlodipine works ok if I combine jogging and limit alcohol. Seems to have a positive effect on erections.. Both cause insomnia but taking in the morning solved that mostly. Hopes thud helps . Btw I had to argue with doc to take me off ramipril .. she wanted to explore my anxiety issues first … bottom line is demand a new medicine if you know it’s causing you problems. . Started taking L-Citrulline supplements .. too early to tell if that helps but I think it’s starting to after 2,weeks.

Hope this helps

I tried Amlodopine and gave me muscle twinges in the legs. Did your blood pressure go down? mine does with Ramipril 5 by about 10 points
