I have been on Ramipril for a long time for high blood pressure.
I have complained of being pale ,tired , breathless and had fevers and chills for some time. My doctors tried to help but could not find the cause of these symptoms.
I decided to read the instruction leaflet inside the Ramipril packet the other night and discovered that these can be side effects of taking Ramipril.
Do I have to put up with these side effects for the rest of my life or is there an alternative drug with less side effects?
There are alternative drugs you can take. Go see your GP and tell him/her what you have found out and that you would like to change your medication. Good luck.
As Springcross has said, there are alternatives. We are all different so may need different drugs.
I remember my mother being on Ramipril some years ago, she couldn’t tolerate it and was swiftly changed to something else.
If you have difficulty making an appointment to see the doctor, try the pharmacist as they really are drug experts. Your pharmacist might suggest something and speak directly to your doctor - they do communicate sometimes.
You can't rely on non-specialists to make a decision. Keep a diary with your dairly activities, symptoms and measurements and take it to your doctor and also ask to be referred to a specialist.
Thank you.I have contacted my doctor who has prescribed another drug.I will keep a diary of my blood pressure every day for a month to see if it helps. Also going for long walks and eating food which I help to lower blood pressure.Fingers crossed.Italiana
