amlodipine cost

wondered why docs put you on amlodipine, just found out it costs 1pound for 28 tablets, where others cost aprox 16pound ie Lercanidipine,i suppose that is why there are many problems with it. so most are treated with the cheapest pills there are.

Doctors should be following the NICE guidance on what kind of BP pills to prescribe depending on the particular circumstances or their patient (e.g. age, ethnicity, lifestyle etc). Then they might tend to choose the ones which they’ve found most useful amongst their own patients and those which have had the most research done on them. Then within that they ought to be choosing the cheapest pills.I’ve no idea whether, in fact, this is what doctors actually do in practice!!!

pretty sure that's rubbish. nice guidelines take priority, generics help drive down costs, not alternatives. plenty taking amlodopine w/ o probs, including me.

Exactly!! It was the first I was put on but gave me itching and flushed face. I then went down the BP med trail..... after 6 different ones I’m now on Lisinopril.

I tried Ramipril and had a bad reaction to it. I guess this was next in line.

I’ve been on amlodipine for a few months now with no side effects and my blood pressure is now normal.

Ive been on lercanidipine and Amlodipine at different times and i have to say despite it being more expensive, it gave me huge problems with terrible side effects did Lercanidipine even on the lowest dose! It gave me the worst acid reflux you can imagine which put me in agony each day, difficulty urinating, erectile dysfunction, palpitations and arrhythmias. It is a dangerous drug and it should be taken off the market. I get no side effects on 5mg of amlodipine.

I've been on all kinds over the years having been put on BP meds in my 20's. I'm on Ramipril now and seems to work well for me. I have high BP, diabetes and high cholesterol - on meds for all. Yet, I run 5-10km most days, BMI is 20 and I eat healthily, don't smoke or drink really. Guess there's always one eh?!

yes its a bugger, i only had 1 problem to deal with high bp, they say olive leaf extract good for all problems but would it interfere with your meds,
