Chlopidogrel concerns

Sorry, I earlier, mistakenly pressed the wrong key.

I’ve taken Chlopidogrel since 2008 when I had an endarterectomy for a left blocked carotid artery. I’d never had a TIA before or since.

For a long time I’ve been concerned with taking this Chlopidogrel and have mentioned this to my GP’s on several occasions. I’ve explored the use of garlic as an alternative but I’ve not found much literature on this. For several years I’ve made changes to my diet and now eat a Mediterranean diet.

If anybody has had similar concerns and what they have done about these concerns I would appreciate their comments or give advice and suggestions.

Sorry Barford I’ve replied to your earlier post!My husband took this up with his doctor - who referred back to the surgeon who had operated on him to unblock an artery - and the surgeon stated that in her opinion this was still the preferred medication. He also takes aspirin, and has done since 2007.

Last summer my husband had a planned operation on his skin to remove a precancerous growth. He’s had several of these before with no problem and didn’t stop taking Clop because he was advised not to. Later that evening he started bleeding, a paramedic came and could not stop the bleeding either so he was taken to hospital where the emergency consultant injected a local clotting agent which did the business.

My husbands view, and I agree, is that the risk of stopping Clop is higher than not stopping. The risk of his heart arteries getting blocked again are too high, so he continues to take Clop and aspirin. From the little I know about the circulatory system, I would not say that diet has the same effect that Clop does. We too have a mainly Mediterranean diet.

Hope this helps!!
