I have been monitoring my BP as directed my GP for 10 days. My average reading is 130/98, I’m 34 young, fit woman with Asthma. My GP said it’s slightly higher but doesn’t want to start messing around with medication. I’m worried as I have family history of high blood pressure and DVT they are also aware of this history. I’m I worrying over nothing and just to keep my eye on it?

Hello Aussie_lass. I’m with your doctor on this one. Once you start taking BP medication you are probably on it for life. Yes, BP must be kept under control, but you should be able to do this by taking care of your diet and lifestyle. If you haven’t done so already, please read the website of Blood Pressure UK which has got lots of hints and tips for you.
Hi Aussie_lass. Just a quick comment to say don't get yourself stressed out about it as it will just make it worse. If you relax for a while before you take it and give yourself time it will help quite a lot. Good luck. x
You have a very good GP who doesn't want to start messing around with medication for you. Medications can even increase you blood pressure, or they can cause issues in other areas. You are opening up a pandora's box when you start to take these toxic drugs which should be taken only when absolutely necessary. Your GP has deemed it is not absolutely necessary yet.
Because you are only 34, lifestyle changes would be a far better option. You do not say whether there is a genetic history of blood pressure in your family tree; you could look into that for further direction on managing your blood pressure.
