Two weeks ago my cardiologist changed perindopril for losartan potassium 50mg due to the ACE cough. Its not the first change Ive tried allsorts but the side effects were unbearable/bp remained high.
Finally on amlopidine 5mg and Losartan Potassium 50mg and the bp is behaving. Its amazing to not have bursting head pressure and pounding ears every day.
HOWEVER...2 weeks on and 2kg gained. That sounds like no big deal but it is a massive deal to me. I havent changed my diet, Im really strict and stick to only 1200 to 1400 cals a day, and feel pretty miserable on it. Because Im recovering from myocarditis cardiologist has banned all optional exercise so I have to eat very little to control weight gain. I managed to lose the best part of a stone since I was in hospital with the myocarditis back in Feb. A gain of a kilo a week is worrying.
Other forums Ive found are full of people complaining about their weight gain since beginning LP, and some of the gains are shocking, 5 or 6 stones after a year or so. Anyone else found this to be the case, And if so was your gp willing to change it to something else?

I have been on LP for 8 years, but have gained weight only in the last 3 years; possibly due to the menopause, adrenal fatigue or lack of exercise due to mobility problems.
Yes, I have noticed a slow, continuing weight gain since I switched from lisinopril to losartan for high blood pressure. I have made no other changes in my diet or medications. As a matter of fact, I am actually eating less and still gaining weight. When I did a search on the internet for "weight gain on losartan", I found numerous reports on "drugs.com" of people who gained weight on losartan. So, it is a very real side effect of losartan. I am going back to lisinopril when I see my primary care doctor next week! Change your prescription right away; I believe it makes some people retain fluids, because I don't urinate as much and am constipated a lot more.
