What is your sleep routine?

Most of my family have high blood pressure (HBP) by the time they reach their sixties.

What I noticed is that all of those who have HBP sleep late, usually after midnight. Personally I get very tired if I sleep late and especially after mid night.

I’m thinking that there might be a link between HBP and sleep routine.

Are there people who sleep very early (10:00 pm) and wake up very early and have HBP.

Our brains get programmed on the time we wake up even if you slept late once in a while. But If it became a habit of you to sleep late then I think you won’t be able to wake up early

You are probably right but I normally go to bed the same time every night.

I too am interested in replies to your post. Before being diagnosed with high blood pressure when I was 68, I rarely went to bed before midnight but slept soundly for 8 hours. Now in my mid-seventies no matter what time I go to sleep I awake after a maximum of 5 and very occasionally six hours. However, I do nap in the afternoon, Another thought it that my problem with blood pressure followed very stressful deaths of close relatives in my family and so is this also linked to the onset in others? I also need to pee more frequently nowadays than 8 hours so perhaps this too is linked

It is known that stress and grief cause HBP, I’m sorry for your losses.

My experience with sleep is that it is not important how many hours you sleep but what time of the day you slept. If I take a nap in the afternoon, I’ll feel very energetic after that. If I sleep just before the sunset, I’ll wake up dizzy and confused. If I wake up late (after 8:00am) I’ll most likely get a headache during that day and I would be lazy all the day.

Since Ive been on bp meds, approx 6 mths, my sleep has been pretty bad. I cant stay awake past 11pm but am wide awake at 5 and can never drop off again. This is on my present combination, others made me very sleepy during the day and others gave me insomnia. I know we are to strive for 8 hrs min a night to naturally help lower bp, but Im sure some of the meds make it nigh on impossible.
