Hi,

I'm not an expert but everyone I've spoken with says normal blood pressure is between 120/80 to 140/90.

Yours seems to be around there.

Medics tend to look at blood pressure over time. If it is regularly high they may suggest tablets to help it to reduce. Lots of things can increase blood pressure levels, including worryingly.

So don't worry, just keep an eye on it and see your doctor if it becomes regularly high and you are concerned about it.

Best wishes,

Mgt

From what I understand you are on the cusp of high blood pressure. Personally I would take it as a nudge to look at your lifestyle and see what you can change to bring it down and keep it lower. When I read through the list of what made a difference I could see straight away what I needed to do. For me it was reduce salt, lose weight and drink more water. These changes have already made a difference in the first few weeks. See how it goes for you. Best of luck.

As the others said, " worried" is not needed, but perhaps "warning" or " eye opening" might be a better way to look at it. It sort of depends on what " normal" is for you. Is this recently higher or has it been this way all your life? Do you have other problems such as diabetes? High blood pressure can lead to kidney disease so a discussion with your doctor would be in order. As Ssncrfs pointed out, reducing sodium ( that means cutting out a lot of processed and fast food), drinking more water and excercising as well as getting anxiety under control can all help control high blood pressure. Get a home monitoring bp kit at you local drug store and start keeping track of it either on paper or using an app on your phone. If you notice a pattern of it being around 140/90 consistently, it's time to discuss it with your doctor as you can catch high blood pressure early and prevent further disease. You are in a good place to make healthy life changes now!

What has been commented on a little is that high blood pressure is often associated with either other issues or genetic predispositions (family history). You would be well advised not to put off seeing your GP who can investigate the situation in its entirety.

Hi Lovely2--my GP would want that to come down a tad, but I certainly wouldn't be too concerned about it. Worrying about it will only make it worse. Why don't you monitor your BP for a week, take a reading twice a day and then go and see your GP if you are concerned. Rushing around at Christmas may have pushed it up. ( Only my own thoughts, I am not a trained health professiional!)

Get a gentle exercise pattern going - brisk walk about a mile a day, get your waist measurement to about half your height, by losing weight if needed. Get your chloresterol levels checked and modify your diet if required. Results will come.

It's really easy to tell people to lose weight, not everyone can lose weight when their metabolism slows down so much as mine did over 20 years ago.

Try a target of 1200 calories a day, with as much fresh food as you can manage. It as hard to stick to as you have to rearrange your lifestyle. if you can get your sugar and chlorester levels checked it may help you to motivate yourself to make the changes that will prolong your life?

141/91 needs medical care. I wish l had your numbers. My diastolic pressures often higher than your systolic pressure.
