Certain Batches of Ventolin and Asmol Inhalers Recalled by GSK
Glaxo SmithKline (GSK) and Alphapharm have voluntarily recalled several batches of Ventolin and Asmol Inhalers due to a fault with the delivery mechanism. This fault is only apparent in a small number of inhalers in each batch. The fault in the inhalers leads to less than a full dose being delivered for each puff. The batches affected are:
• Ventolin Batches KN170, KN7173, KN7178, and KN7179
• Asmol Batches KL6790, KL6795, KL6796, KL6797, KL6798, and KL6799
To check your inhaler, remove the canister from the plastic device and locate the batch number on the label. If you have an inhaler that is affected by the recall you may return it to your pharmacy for a replacement. Your inhaler will still work to treat your asthma symptoms. You may need to use an extra dose or 2 to be effective. Other batches remain unaffected.
Salbutamol, the medication in Ventolin and Asmol is used to treat asthma symptoms.

Allen & Hanburys are the original patent holders of the Ventolin salbutamol inhaler No longer protected by patent they are often replaced by cheaper generic inhalers. My local doctors pharmacy supplies one by Ivax and the CFC version is next to useless; after a couple of uses it is more wheezy and lacking in puff than me. I've requested the A&H ventolin to no avail, and it looks like this will be increasingly the case in the next financial year as doctors will be black-listed if they refuse to prescribe generic drugs where available. This is all part of the plan to reduce the NHS bill by 4% per annum. The Tories claim they can save £1bn this way, and of course the NHS is safe in their hands.
My mother had COPD and senile dementia. She was a life long smoker and we stopped her having shop bought cigs as she put them down and fires could start. We took everthing from her room that she could cause herself harm with. My brother used to roll her cigs as they would go out when she put them down. It was a Sunday lunch time and I was downstairs cooking the lunch. My youngest grandson ran down the stairs saying great nan was on fire. I rushed up stairs to find her holding her ventolin inhaler in one hand and her lighter in the other. She thought she had put a cig in her mouth but in was the inhaler and somehow she pressed the inhaler at the same time as she lit the lighter. Her mouth was black and the flames were up to past her head. I wont go into the rest of the gory details but when the firebrigade arrived their chief said he had no idea inhalers were flammable. Mum died 2 days later of respiratory failure and full thickness burns on her thighs. So take care with those inhalers love maxer x
Oh Maxer,how terrible for you.My heart goes out to you,with dealing with all that.Thanks for sharing,a lot of people would not realise the dangers of these inhalers.
