Omeprazole

I have been prescribed Omeprazole for reflux, it is working well but I find I am very 'gassy'. I thought it was the antibiotics I was on when I first started taking it because I know they do that to me, but I have finished them now and it is still the same. I have to keep going and hiding in a corner, lol. Does anyone else have this problem with them?

Yes I do, I am on lansoprazole. I have had so many antibiotics over the years that my tummy is now actually an embarrassment. I have tried everything from yoghurts to activia drinks tabs from holland and barrett, I am running ouit of options!

I have the problem anyway. I blame sitting still for too long these winter evenings. The problem keeping the wind to yourself and not noticed by others!! I was on omeprazole some months ago, then alternative anti reflux drugs, then on emaprazole from yesterday. For me, the wind isn't directly related to these drugs. Dont let any children hear, they find it so funny.

I'm surprised I haven't bumped into you in that corner !!!! Difficult to know isn't it a we have to take a variety of drugs generally. Mo you can get live freeze dried probiotics on prescription. Mind you have to keep them in the fridge so would have to buy some when away. Wonder if probiotics might help you carole.

Lansoprazole work much better for me I've found.

Taking them before food and avoiding things which would make me have more gas (different for each of us maybe) or defense against long times in the naughty corner. They do seem to take a week or so to do more than make gas but they do protect the stomach (so I am told) worth keeping on with if possible.

Thanks trainddriver, am going to persist as reflux really scares me when it ends up in your lungs as it did one night!

Hi Carol I find that the best way to avoid wind embaressment is to glare at the person nearest to me.

I have had the same problem excessively and embarrassingly so with Nicquitin lozenges. I mentioned it to the nurse at the surgery who laughed her socks off and replied well its better to be farting than smoking!!! Not much I could say to that ha ha ha

Hiya caroleoctober,

I take omeprazole at night before going to sleep. Before I took it, I was in severe pain with relux and got rushed to hospital twice because the heartburn was so severe. Fingers crossed all is well since taking it. I suffer with terrible wind too, always have tho so not sure if it is linked with the omeprazole for me. What I find helps me is taking Rennie deflatine. I take one or two before eating if I go out and I find the wind just dispurses quietly and pleasantly!

Other than that........I say, "better out than in!".

I have been on Omeprazole for 3 years, I never suffer from wind there must, I assume, be another cause of your problem. Peppermint in any strong form, Ex S mints, cordial, oil, or fresh leaves chopped and mixed with chocolate mousse or icecream, is good for relieving wind.

If one of these doesn't blow you away I don't know what will ;-) Good luck.

I have been on Omeprazol for a couple of years now, had hoped to come off them but then was found to have a hyitus hernia so now have to take for life, I do suffer embarassing wind. At times I still have reflux at night and I agree, it can be frightening and the taste is vile to say nothing about the burning...... horrid. I take one in the morning, wonder if I shoud take at night?
