Glad you have found one to suit you. I am allergic to penicillin and have a really bad stomach to another antibiotic too. I hate taking the 6 steroids and the taste gets caught up in your mouth and sticks in there, but if they help us, then we have to put up with whats best for us x

Hi Cecelia Ann and San

Are Ventolin Seretide and Subutamol which I take daily termed steroids or are steroids extra to or in place of these please. I seem to gather that the steroids are given when a chest infection is present what I get is amoxycillan is that termed a steroid. I feel a bit ignorant on the subject and would be glad of your answers.

Ventolin is just a trade name for Salbutomol, neither that nor Seretide are steroid inhalers.

A quick guide - blue are relievers, intended to quell an attack or shortness of breath. Green are preventers, you take them a couple of times a day and they are supposed to help prevent a flare up. Brown are steroid, usually to relieve inflamation. Purple are a combi (combination) of green and brown contents. There are others.

Amoxycillin is a general anti-biotic.

Have a read: sheffield.nhs.uk/respirator...

Thank you Gordon I get purple (the combi) so it would appear I have not had steroids prescribed as yet.

Sorry. Yes you have, purple is the contents of green plus brown. My fault, I mis-read Seretide when you first put it. It is a combi of Fluticasone (steroid/brown inhaler) and Salmeterol (preventer/green inhaler)

Aaargh! wondered why I didn't specially like that one - still I don't suppose we're meant to like anything from here on in - never mind we're still here, thanks again Gordon

If it causes problems, like a sore throat, gives you a bad head, whatever - go back to your GP and ask them to change it. I went through many combinations before we found a suitable steroid. I got a sore throat from several, which was no good at the time when I was broadcasting on the radio each day. The combi ones are no good for me, so I have a separate green and brown.

But lets hope that the antibiotics and steroids do their job! My husband always has to take the steroids when he is on antibiotics and says they taste dreadful! It won't be forever and with a bit of luck this course will clear the chest infection and you will be feeling much better soon. Take care TAD x

Hi Cecililia-Ann

Glad you have found you tolerate Co-amoxyclav (Augmentin). I would think you would be able to tolerate Amoxil, as co-amoxiclav is made up of Amoxil, which is the anti-biotic and clavulanic acid, which prevents the bacteria from stopping the Amox from doing its job.

Interestingly enough I went to see my resp cons last Thursday and my sputem sample looked norm for me. However I knew I was brewing an infection because of how rough I felt and the taste. Thought the sample would come back as Haemoph influenzae (as that is one of my pets). My cons put me on 1g amox 3 times a day. High temp Thursday night and filthy gunk - temp spiked 'til tues. My sputem became white (unheard of for me), but very difficult to get up and hacking cough. Just been to docs for results and to find out when I could have flu jab with this going on. Sputem results - cultured Haem Inf as expected, now here's the thing resistent to Amox - sensitive to Augmentin and Doxy. So I guess if I hadn't gone for results I would be back to sqaure one when abs completed. GP also gave me my flu jab there and then. V luck 'cos the pharmacist told me the quiue for flu jab yesterday was down the road.

Don't forget the chosen ab has not only to suit you but the bugs you grow have to be sensitive to it.

My docs are quite limited in choice of abs due to my intolerences with 2 alergic reactions.

Good luck with the abs - hope you won't need them too often.

Hiya cecellia-anne,glad you're on a antibionic (it's what I call them lol)that works for you, I wish that they could get me one.My problem is that I have a heart condition ( stent fitted last year at44)also have mental health problems as well so I can only take certain meds as 1can interfere with A,but not B or C,and so on. Keep getting chest infections, upto 4+1 lung infection so far this year, but hey ho still here lol. If what you take works for you stick with it. Take care and stay well xx:-)
