Hi Peppy05

Sinus tachycardia is basically a raised heart rate. This can happen in response to many things from infection to exercise - all sorts of things. I am not a doctor so can’t say why you have it. I do suggest that you go to your GP and get it explained as it applies to you. Some people have treatment for it and some do not need it. Having it explained should put your mind at rest.

Thanks Missyscarlet, I went to hospital one morning because I use to wake up at night trying to catch my breath the hospital did a chest Cray and EKG said I have bronchitis and put me on Ventolin inhaler

How raised was it and were you stressed at the time?

Sinus tachycardia is basically a pulse above 100. There are two types appropriate and inappropriate. Inappropriate tachycardia can have many causes from fever to medications such as rescue inhalers. There are so many reasons that it would be very difficult to eliminate many Causes without tests. I can only suggest you speak with your GP.

I feel that is such a misleading name as it is not anything to do with our sinus passages!!!Speak to your gp if you are concerned as it relates to your heart rate so if you have been told that you have it then I imagine they would give you something to control it?

Perhaps there is someone on the forum who has first hand experience of the condition who can help you.

Hoping you feel better very soon and yes severe coughing can put a strain on our muscles.

Hi Peppy05, I was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia 17 years ago. At the time it was very frightening as my pulse was racing even when at rest. My consultant (a very experienced cardiologist from the army, a brigadier) told me that although it was very frightening and often affected younger people it was definitely not life threatening. I take 2 beta blockers a day to control it and have been fine ever since.

This all happened 10 years before I was diagnosed with COPD (emphasema) so I don't think it is linked as it never made me cough or was painful in my chest or anywhere else.

Hope this helps.

Thanks blue1 it helps a lot, I can relax a little now, I check my pulse on and off with the finger thing (lol) sometimes it shock me when it's 98 or 94 some days it's usually 108 or 102. Again thanks blue, and God bless you

I hope you can relax a little now. My pulse was reaching 160+ while I was asleep and even higher at times when awake. I had a 24 hour heart monitor fitted to measure this then the treatment slowed everything down nicely. Hope you stay well.
