Acid aspiration

Please does anyone suffer with a horrid mucusy cough and a feeling of constant irritation just below bottom sternum not behind it. Not pain but a need to cough from the irritation there. I have had these flares for about 4 years. Suffer for months and then it slowly goes. Cts, cxr etc all clear. I do have asthma but it does not feel like it is on my upper chest and I am not s.o.b. I have a small hiatus hernia but dont get burning etc. It is fairky constant some days worse and I am exhausted. Please anyone understand or have these symptoms.

Sounds like you need a good cough and a burp ha ha. I am no expert but I wonder if it might be a bit of acid reflux/inflammation. I gather this can in turn affect your lungs. Don't let it the inflammation get worse, 4 years is quite long enough and don't put up with the discomfort, off back to the Drs. for you. Good luck

Yes I agree it sound like it could be reflux related. There are treatments, you need to ask your GP to refer you to a GI specialist who can then perform tests like endoscopy, gut function test maybe barium swallow.

But whilst you wait to be seen ask to b put on Ranitidine first, try 300mg per day and have Gaviscon after meals and see if that eases it. Also aloe juice once a day helps, you can get it from H&B or from Amazon.

Try sleep as upright as you comfortably can and don't eat dinner late.

Herbal teas (not peppermint) are better like camomile as they don't contain caffeine. Heavy dairy is the bad guy, always makes reflux really bad.
