I’m 23 years old (m) and was recently diagnosed with very mild bronchiectasis. Really thankful it’s not more serious and have the upmost respect for those of you that really struggle with the condition.
I get the odd chest infection (maybe 1/2 an year) after a virus which clears up with antibiotics however even after I’m no longer coughing up phlegm, my lungs still sound coarse when forcing exhalation. I’ve tried all the breathing techniques and devices to try and clear the sound but nothing ever comes up and it usually leaves my chest feeling worse and more irritated. I get quite bad post nasal drip, especially in winter, so I don’t know if it is just that causing the irritation in the upper lung. Either way, I just wondered if anyone had any tips on how to help the irritation? I would contact my GP to ask but am about to go travelling the world tomorrow (exciting), so really don’t have the opportunity.

Thank you very much for your reply! I have a steroid nasal spray that I have been using and it definitely does help. Will look at getting a good antihistamine. I’ve been vaccinated to the max before this trip and going to wear a mask as much as possible to avoid any viruses as these are definitely what cause my exacerbations. The areas I’m going have great healthcare, so not too worried if I do get one. Just got to be more prepared I guess
Stop trying to clear something that’s probably not there as this will make your chest sore and feel irritated. Just concentrate on diaphragm breathing techniques and enjoying your trip
Are you on Carbocisteine? This medication thins the mucus, making it easier to shift. Also, check your home for Black Mould, which can lurk anywhere where there is water leakage. And, as has been suggested, an antihystamine may combat anything you may be allergic to. Pollen, mould spores, animal hair, dust mites.....Not any pollen about at he moment in UK, but still some fungal spores, and we are always shedding skin, so dust mites.
No I’m not on that but it almost feels like there’s nothing to thin. Airways just sound irritated. My cough has gone, it’s just that forced exhalation that still makes a bit of a coarse sound. May just be some residual inflammation from a recent infection I’ve fought off
Wow , a trip around the world. I bet while you’re travelling you’ll forget all about your chest and just enjoy, besides warmer climates will do wonders for you so just enjoy for now.
