Zoledronic acid bone infusion via IV

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are all keeping as well as can be. Tomorrow I am seeing my bone specialist at hospital to have a Zoledronic acid bone infusion via IV to help my Osteoporosis.

I have been taking alandronic acid tablets for the last 5 years but now I need something stronger to help my bones, because of all the steroids/prednisolone I have had to take over the years.

Has anyone else had this? Am I to expect many side effects?

Kind regards as always

Joseph x

Hi - I had this once a year for three years which is the usual dosage. I can not take the tablets as it doesn’t mix with my other medication. It is a quick process once the IV is in, only takes about 30 minutes to infuse. The first one really made my bones ache especially my hips. I was tired after each one but only for about a day. I had no other side effects. The second and third time I just had the tiredness.

Hi Joseph, I am having the same infusion as you sometime in November. I was told it may cause aching and you may feel off colour for a day or two.

I had these infusions once a year for 5 yrs. Infusion lasts approximately 1 hour and dead easy and I had no after effects. Infusions stopped after 5 yrs as my bone density had improved!?
