Poor Dog has COPD?

My carer was in this morning and bit upset telling me she had her dog a West Highland terrier at vet with long term breathing problems,breathless,crackling in lungs,airways blocked has been on steroids and antibiotics has now been diagnosed with copd after tests..diddent know animals could get copd but then again why not I suppose,dog..I keep saying dog because I don't know it's name is now on fusimax same as myself to prevent osteoporosis because of steroids.Poor dog,poor carer.Ger

The horse that my daughter used to exercise gently for its owner had to take bronchodilators.

My three cats were diagnosed with asthma after contracting pneumonia......just like I did. We all used to cough, wheeze and struggle to breathe together.

Awww shame, I 've heard of horses with emphysema, but not dogs before although I have noticed little dogs with breathing probs, inter breading of pedigrees etc, like the pug and king charles. Having said that chances are those little dogs probably have done a lot of passive smoking and walking at the height of car exhaust emissions.

Horses can get COPD (now known as recurrent airway obstruction RAO) commonly known as 'broken wind' or 'Heaves' thought to be from allergic reaction to spores in damp feed and/or damp/dusty stables.

Then there's all those poor dogs, like pugs and bulldogs, who are bred in such a way that they have difficulty breathing without even having to have a lung condition.

Yes. I do wish people wouldn't buy them. If they'd ever been truly breathless themselves, they might understand how cruel it is to breed respiratory issues.
