Is this a Bad idea?

I work at a garage, it's not ideal it's cold & damp in winter. I have to enter the workshop at times which is sometimes dusty or has fumes. Also a worker smokes and it wafts into the office at times. My boss is a control freak and I am finding myself anxious before I go to work. I have applied for a job at a doctor's surgery in the office not on front desk. Is this a stupid idea? I have mild airway disease. Taking Spiriva & fostair.

Good luck to you and I hope you get your new job. Where you work now isn’t great for your health. Xxxx

Smoking in the workplace is illegal and your boss is also breaking the law by allowing it!

Yes change your job, the smoke, dust, cold and damp are bad for you.

Most of the risk from germs can be eliminated by washing your hands regularly and/or using a hand sanitiser, keep your hands away from your face too. There is no more risk than going to a hospital appointment. Always wash/sanitise your hands before leaving work (and the hospital) so you do not take anything nasty home with you.

Good luck with your application, fingers crossed for you.

This is seriously bad for you Karen - the fumes I mean, but 2G is right about smoking in the workplace. Good luck for the new job :)

All the best for the new job! The risk of germs sounds manageable to me, especially if you are in a separate office. Where you are now doesn't sound good.

I agree wholeheartedly with previous replies. Get out of the garage....I worked in one once....you’ll be away from the patients in the surgery office, and antibac wipes and a clean working area will put the seal on the deal! Good luck 🍀

You are doing the most sensible thing getting out of the dust and cold etc spriva will help you a lot I was on that medication but as since be change to Braltus which does the same thing. But changing your occupations is good.

No its not stupid at all and I hope you get the job. Being stupid is staying where you are as it will certainly not be doing your lungs any good at all. I wish you well

It sounds a good move, you should get out of the winter damp atmosphere, remove seondary smoke, you may not get away from control freaks but overall your health should improve.
