Silly fall

Hi..

Silly blind me..slipped on the bathroom mat, hit the metal bottom of the shower stand, split the skin on my ankle..it took my breath away, swell right up and bled profusely because of the steroids I expect..So A&E..waited for 2h30mn, lucky I had done my own first aid..

GP wasn’t happy because they didn’t give me antibiotics as I am immunosuppressed..so may have to go back to see him tomorrow..why didn’t I think of it..not looking forward to tonight..can’t even take paracetamol, it is an asthma trigger for me so that’s that.

I’d better get on those sleep meditation tapes..

Night, sniff, feeling sorry for myself, just the week I have to take Dad’s urn to Paris, I’d better be well enough for Saturday!!

Nighty night

Fran xx

Hi Anne, only when I move, or with my leg down.. I suppose blood rushes down to the foot and the weight on it.

I had to welcome my cousin who is going into hospital today, so I stayed up with her chatting, I was exhausted.

I kept away from antibiotics this winter and now I may have them for a silly fall.

in reply to

Oups it went.. wanted to say I hope you feel better today.

Sorry to hear about your fall Fran. I hope you are well enough to make your Paris trip.

I was sillier a year ago, I have a foot condition where the fat pads under the foot are decreasing. I have insoles and told never to walk in bare feet or slippers without insoles.

Maybe more than a year as I lived in a town and a large house, I heard the man who does gas safety checks and fell down the stairs head first from the top, my head bounced on the hall window frame and my knees took the full brunt. My head was OK as there was soft padding on the frame edges but my knees were a mess. I was shook up but did not go to GP - I now live in a bungalow and would not live in split level housing again.

Not so silly Fran - Lots of people get falls, this was my second but I was younger the first time and was able to get on my back, all I had was friction burns..

I am sure you will be well enough for Saturday. Take care..

in reply to Ern007

Sorry about your fall downstairs Ern .. yes I am in a ground floor flat, the nurse said no more carpets but how do you manage without a bath mat?? I will tape it down for now.

Thank you for your kind words x

Thank you Cas 🧚‍♀️..I will have a hot drink and try to sleep again in a minute..my cousin gave me arnica granules, she believes in homeopathy, I am using those, I can’t have any painkillers so I better believe in them tonight!!

OUCH really gotta be more careful dontcha think. Maybe the responsibility of the urn is weighing heavy on your subconscious mind, ya never know but I’m guessing it’s making you overly tired that’s when we tend to take that one bad step or if you’re anything like me can trip on something that’s not even there or both feet fly out from under ya and there you are on a broken bum on the floor. Gotta be more careful lucky you didn’t break a bone or something even worse. Good luck with tomorrow when the soreness really kicks in. Wow Paris-yummy I hope you have a good time even though sounds like it’s for something saddening. Keep smiling an eat plenty of pastry you can only get there😛

in reply to Sandyeggo

I know, silly me, yes I was tired and not paying attention enough..usually I have a coffee before I take a shower as I have low blood pressure it helps but I thought I’ll have one after..didn’t even get a chance to get in the shower!

I won’t be well but I will be going. I was thinking about what to wear at the funeral would you believe..I will have to wear trousers and a jacket as well as comfortable shoes, I can’t put tights on over the bandages. 😃 My main preoccupation is to get my hair done and do my suitcase!!!

Sure your outfit will be fine, hope painrelief will keep you going. I'm in the throes of an infection I think I picked it up from my son who was admitted in hospital almost 2 weeks ago due to falling with hip problems . He's had problems for months and I was being his carer when he couldn't even make himself a drink , at 55 he still lives at home. He started with an infection and phoned and told me not to visit but I did . 4 days I couldn't eat and have Been spending a lot of time in bed. Still having hot sweats but getting my appetite back now. All the best for the weekend xx

in reply to joyce74

Unfortunately I have no pain relief, it makes me breathless, I breathe deeply, like in Call the Midwife😃 the old fashioned way!!

Oh dear, that’s all you need..mind you my 39 year old daughter moved back home with Aria..I love them both but what is it that our generation has to take care of their children as well as their parents??

She moved back in June unemployed and with typhoid fever!! I thought it was a stomach bug but it didn’t improve so called emergency and got her admitted to hospital. First they had said salmonella then sent her to a specialist who said typhoid, 6 to 8 months recovery and it is during that time she got shingles! So I was caring for Bea and Dad! Luckily I didn’t catch that typhoid fever, I had to nurse her with gloves, wore a mask and used disinfectant everywhere. Imagine if I had passed it on to Dad.

I was talking about it to the nurse yesterday when she mentioned retirement as a place in heaven..I said I would have gone back to work anyday!!

Well look after yourself Joyce, it is supposed to get very cold again. I must have missed the whole point of global warming, feels more like the Ice Age xx

Wishing you well xx

in reply to Yatzy

Hi Penny

No sprain no they checked all that. No

I am not allowed to put anymore ice on. I keep on taking the Arnica granules my cousin gave me, placebo effect or not 😃

I’m ok as long as I don’t move and nothing touches it!!!

Thanks for asking love

Ouch! I didn’t know paracetamol could trigger asthma. That explains a lot. Hope you will be ok for Saturday. Hugs.

in reply to

Well it does trigger mine..At the beginning I thought I was imagining it you know, and I talked to the GP about it..I can take it but I also have to take extra reliever and at night I would rather sleep, so all in all I’m better without..thank you xx

in reply to

I looked it up after you said. My asthma has been terrible this week - guess what I have been taking! I found a new piece of research that agrees paracetamol can trigger asthma. Wish i’d Known last week. Take care.

I'm late answering today, had a fair bit of paperwork to do. Just not your families week is it ? Flights delays, Plus everthing else to organise, only consolation is it is keeping your mind off other things. These times are always fraught no matter how much we try to relax and accept. Yes I do understand the feelings its not so long since I lost my mother either and that was a two part burial too, two years ago. My thoughts are with you at this time, take care no more falls love Kate xx

in reply to katieoxo60

Hello Kate 🌺

Oh please don’t worry we all answer when we can..I am having my colour done reading the newspapers..just a lady of leisure this afternoon..

Sorry you also had a two-part burial, you are not the only one it seems. I also read about it today.

The thing is when you hit a low you can only go up again and up it is today, 😉self-massaging with Weleda Arnica Oil has been a wonderful help.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🤞 😃

Bea supervised my shower this morning, jammed the bath mat under the linen box and made sure I raised my leg high enough to get in the shower! So I thought I am at the age when we start to swap places!! 😂 I even said thanks Mum but it was a joke to lighten up things a little..I said Bea don’t worry lovey..

Hi Fran , glad you are pampering yourself. I feel a little shocked this morning as my antibiotics gave me a dangerous side effect. But as you say we all have downers. I've stopped the pills and think I am recovering. Now talking about bath mats mine is held down by the bathroom door , but I don't have a bath only a walk in shower with small step and grab rail. The floor covering is none slip too, which is no dearer than tiles, carpet or lino to buy. But I do miss a bath. I say yes mum to some of the older ladies in my widows group, it's only a joke and they do not take offence as you say. Well hope you are OK today and well ready for tomorrow. Trust all will go well and speak to you again soon love Kate xx

in reply to katieoxo60

Have spoke to a GP this morning, advised to stop antibiotics and see what happens

in reply to katieoxo60

Good job you did then.

I have had intolerances to many I must say it is getting worse with time.. I am supposed to do an antibiotics test to see the ones I respond to most and to see if I am really allergic to penicillin, because I had rashes years ago but it can change apparently.

A couple of years ago they gave me Bactrim, I hadn’t it for a while, I had a stomatitis.

The others like the Azithromycin or clarithromycin mainly give me digestive problems although some make my heartbeat faster, the ciproflaxin family for example.

So I am at my wits end with antibiotics.

Hope you are ok now Kate xx

Take care of yourself

Hi Fran ,know you are away but this is for when you get back. Hope today goes well for you and the family. It is sunny and bitterly cold here and apparently it is arctic in Europe. My mum was allergic to penicillan but this is the first time I have had an adverse effect to antibiotics. Can't take BP tablets due to other health , can't take Nsaids due to lung illness, then I have allergy reactions to some drugs. Many years ago I was given a tablet that caused something similar to ananapalatic shock , i.e swollen body, rash and breathing difficulties however the doctor who visited said it was hives.Thank goodness I stopped the pills and consulted my own GP who was very upset. I had to have slowK to take down the swelling and the rash took quite some time to eventually go. Did not know you had some drug issue I've never been tested for allergies.Anway enough of my problems you have plenty of your own . Speak to you again soon Take care Katexx

Hi Fran. I fell three weeks ago and split my arm because of taking steroid inhalers. My skin has got so thin. I was coming home from babysitting my Grandchildren and fell over a netball base in the dark. My son made me go back in to see if I had done any damage but for how hard I fell I was convinced I hadn’t. Besides I had a thick coat and jumper on. Anybody normal wouldn’t even have a marlk. It was quite nasty however and the hospital had a job to stop the bleeding because I’m on aspirin. Our local hospital was closed at nine and this was nine thirty so we had to travel about eighteen miles to Taunton hospital. I did go home and called 111 in the hope they could send someone to dress it but No! I had to go to A&E. They were lovely there and I was on my way home within twenty minutes. It does make you cross that your skin lets you down though and you have to be a nuisance to somebody doesn’t it?

in reply to Mavary

Hello Mavary

So sorry to hear you had a bad fall my dear. Sounds awful. You need a torch for the next babysitting session!!!

How is it healing?? My skin takes such a long time to heal..

It is also very thin due to steroids intake. That’s what happened, same as you, the foot came up in a huge bruise, I quickly put an ice pack in a cloth on it then my skin literally exploded..I must say I waited a while but they did a good job at the hospital, I have just looked at it as I washed the wound with the 0.9% solution, dressed it with the lint and special non stick plaster for thin skin, now I can put my foot up! I had to wait for the chemist’s to get their delivery at 2pm because they didn’t have the right bandage size, so I hung around town sitting on a bench!

Anyway back home now and kettle on. I am exhausted. I expect you were too.

Thank you for sharing!!

Love Fran x

Hi Fran. It’s so embarrassing when you do silly things isn’t it.

When I was on holiday in Gran Canaria in October I decided a day before coming home that I would go in the pool. I didn’t go in before as the day after I got there I went to get a ball out of the pool. misjudged the edge , caught my foot and quickly brought my other one in breaking my toe. It was agony the whole holiday but I didn’t let on. I wasn’t happy with that when I got out of the pool the day before coming home my Son went to the loo downstairs. Well as soon as anyone mentions the loo I have to go so I went upstairs, peeled my costume off then proceeded to sit on the loo. Well I was wet and slipped off between the loo and bidet in a most unladylike fashion. I badly tore one arm and had a big haematoma on the other one. So off to the Drs we went to the tune of 320 Euros. I did claim it back on insurance though. My Daughter in Law slipped and fell when walking down a slope and just had a graze. I hate to think what my knee would have been like had it been me. So you see it’s not us, it’s our silly skin. Hope your foot gets better quickly. My latest arm has just about healed nicely but I’m going to have a lovely scar. My war wound as I call it. I’ve got two matching arms. Take care. X

in reply to Mavary

Oh awful what an experience!!! Hope it didn’t ruin your holiday 🌸

and yes it can be costly! I have just spent a fortune on this special non stick lint and adhesive bandages that don’t rip your skin off..

Here my insurance only covers certain things the cheaper ones 😃

Immunosuppressed? Nor did I!! Well long-term steroids I suppose..We will soon be a medical encyclopaedia my dear Mel 😃😉

Did they try lowering the dosage of Sirolimus?? Some girls take quite a small dosage and it makes a difference.

Funny I was reading an article of Professor Johnson dating a few years where he was promoting progesterone and doxycyclin in those days, it wasn’t so bad you know I believe it saved me a few painful years..well telling all that because now they talk of Sirolimus like the key med but soon I hope very soon my dear Mel they will discover a new miracle drug!! Hello my dear BJ

Thank you 🌸 Hope you are ok these days, starting to feel better.

I slept until now, I will try again, the northern wind is beating against the shutters. I have no pain killers, they usually trigger my asthma, I could raise the prednisone but it is so hard to get down again, I took a sleeping tablet though. I am just very stiff, it gets better when I get moving throughout the day.

Anyway I haven’t broken anything just bruised the bone and I have a wound I have to go to the hospital every two days to have it dressed and checked.

Doctor put me on antibiotics, that’s helping my cough 😃 more than my leg but it is for prevention because I hit the shower rails.

Thank you for thinking of me xx

Fran

How was the holiday? Are you back home?

It takes its course..the shock is over, the foot is blue, the wounds are superficial but need seeing to etc, the fact that I am on steroids and hit an iron rail led them to give me antibiotics so I am well medicated 😃..

Yes I imagine it catching up is going to take you a while..

i'm well Fran.thankyou 4 asking.the fall or whatever happened to you must have literally shaken your body up.i don't know anything about a departure,i hope you have a nice time where ever you are travelling to,but please take your time, and don't rush.your body has had a shock and your injuries must be hurting,so if you will let me pm you I will tell you of a spiritual experience I had-its sort of personal and precious to myself, and I am a sceptical person.good wishes fran.xx

Oh poor Fran,

There are other measures you can take against pain, either cold or warm, like warm wheat bag, or frozen one - must be covered not to burn the skin.

I am sorry to hear this. I hope you will brace yourself against the cold. I heard ON Europe Un that some French region could go down at -17.When I was young, there was a product called "eau de goulard" which was a calming water (don't know what's in it, but my mum would apply a compress on swellings and bruised knees, as I was won't to fall on them regularly!

You are in our thoughts. And then this trip to Paris, be careful with that kind of weather.

Big warming hug,

Mic
