brief hello again

eleanordigby profile image
99 Replies

I’m still on a few other HU groups and got numerous “alerts” about my goodbye post, so I’ve popped back to answer the kind ones, but was taken into hospital yesterday so please give me a day or so. Just to explain - because I objected  to the person posting anti-vax misinformation and links to very right wing US websites, they then targeted me numerous times on 2 or 3 threads, which wasn’t pleasant. I reported this obviously but I also appealed for support & for others to report. No one did, which is why I felt isolated. Eventually the posts were removed so if you didn’t see them & yourself have only ever had good experiences here - well I can only say I’d have no reason to make this up.

I would have reacted in the same way, eleanordigby. I hope you are okay! The extreme US anti-vax stuff is just plain toxic and really distressing. You are obviously a well informed and valued member of this community with a lot to offer. I'm glad the offending posts have been removed, many people are supportive even though they didn't see the posts. What has upset me, frankly, are the people judging and second-guessing your response! It's borderline verbal abuse, in my opinion, to label or criticize someone's feelings about an issue. Very best wishes and hope you feel better very soon. xx

eleanordigby profile image
eleanordigby in reply to Gloryvine

very kind of you to say that, gv

yes I found that oddly more hurtful, - it’s kind of saying “well I’ve always found people supportive, so it’s obviously you” - even more isolating 🙁

I have to agree as well! Even though miscarriages, infertility and myocarditis are up, and insurance companies have reported a 40% increase in deaths UNRELATED to covid since 2020, I agree that we should still get boosted. It's just crazy not to.

They are probably judging her because they don't realize that our government wants the best for us! They would never put out a vaccine that could harm.

Sorry to hear you are poorly. I never saw the posts you are referring to. These kind of posts and behaviour towards you certainly should not be allowed. In the past I have reported people for comments/ behaviour and views that I feel are inappropriate or dangerous.

Once I have reported them I have never had a response from the moderator or healthunlocked. Maybe a post reminding people what is non acceptable post are and how to report them would be useful .

Can you block people like you can on Facebook ? Maybe more moderators are required to stop intimidation or bullying.

Wishing you a speady recovery.

Hoping you’re home from hospital soon. I’m sure nobody thought you’d made things up and I did eventually find the post. I hadn’t understood how much flack you’d taken on other threads which is not allowed and not nice. That sort of thing is rare however so no need to leave the site unless you really want to.

Best wishes to you Eleanor. Xxx❤️

I know, that no one on here will think you were making anything up! I DID find the post you were referring to but it took a little time to find and go through all the different replies. Am sorry you feel unsupported but I think people didn’t realise the flack you were getting. I certainly didn’t! I suspect one reason for this, is you didn’t write the original post and it was “deep inside” a whole load of replies.

Hope you out of hospital soon and feeling better.

Ah - only just seen this post Eleanordigby. I hadnt realised how you had been targetted in the way you describe. That shouldnt happen. And for the record, it never occurred to me that you had made anything up. Ignore people, it isn't worth it. And I am anti-vax also, which must make me wrong too. But see, I think you're wrong so who cares? We must get along, everyone is different. If someone has a differing opinion, that is fine. We are adults.

LissacFrance profile image
LissacFrance in reply to slram

People do care though. Antivax is misplaced ideology with no scientific backup. I for one am pleased to have had the covid vaccine to name just one. If vaccines are so bad could you explain why there is no longer any Smallpox around?

Izb1 profile image
Izb1 in reply to LissacFrance

I have to butt in on this reply as I have been reading alot just lately about the covid vaccine and have decided not to have anymore, unless something drastic changes my mind. I think this is a man made disease so doesnt behave the same as all others so you cant compare this to other diseases and how vaccines work. This is only my opinion and I am not antivax but there has been alot covered up regarding covid so have become wary. By the same token I dont think anybody should suffer abuse for their opinion as eleanordigby did x

LissacFrance profile image

there’s a requirement that people back up their claims with evidential links but many don’t, and this person was linking to US sites known for promoting hate speech & conspiracy theories eg bitchute. Me too, don’t think I would’ve got past infancy. I’m so dependent on, and grateful for, modern medicine and now the massive efforts by scientists the world over to bring us these vaccines. Science rocks! Yes they had to be rushed through regulatory authorities to some extent but the alternative was millions of deaths. You only have to look at the 1918 pandemic - 50million dead!

Hi! I know it’s not the same but I had a very good fiend until Covid came along. I’m pretty sure she must have been unstable because she was really anti vax. She would look up things from these American sites and print anything that was anti vax. In the end I got so fed up with the posts I deleted her. It was such a shame as we had been friends for quite a while. So I don’t blame you being angry but if the group helps you and your complaint don’t let that sort of person win. They’ve now been deleted and you can get on with your life without worrying. I know it bothered me for quite a while and this brings it back to me. Luckily I didn’t see any of it. But then I’m not on here too often.

slram profile image

Mavary profile image
Mavary in reply to slram

No but I didn’t want to see her comments from different ones in America and goodness knows what condemning the Vaccines which I believe in. It’s her individual choice but it shouldn’t be put out to everyone else. I’m still on her messages but not her Facebook posts.

eleanordigby profile image
eleanordigby in reply to Mavary

That’s very interesting because the same happened to me! A close friend got sucked into the anti vax vortex and it was like a cult had got hold of her. A very intelligent woman, she became obsessed with this stuff and impossible to talk to, very angry etc. I’ve had to stop seeing her, I couldn’t deal with it, but it’s sad as we’ve had some lovely times together. Of course, although a good bit older than me, she is super healthy and rarely takes so much as a paracetamol!

Hello again hello again, So sorry to hear your bad experience. I have had the same - whenever I object to anti-vaxxers spreading their false news and lies. Must admit I find the kickback funny mostly and give as good as I get. Had I seen your mail for help I would have weighed in with gusto. Make sure you copy me in if it happens again. Hope the hospital visit goes OK. Have just been taken in for low sats (have sever COPD etc) but a news drug seems to be working well. Fingers crossed (while I still have them!).

eleanordigby profile image
eleanordigby in reply to Timberman

I love your reply, it made me chuckle! Glad a new drug is helping. I’m in my local hospital but they’re taking instructions about treatment from the Brompton so I should be ok, although the actual care isn’t a patch on RBH. I feel I have to double check everything. It’s because they’re inundated with sick people and a lot of staff are off sick too so it’s chaos with knobs on 😬

Interesting question. There are five times as many names Wood in the telephone directory than Woods. One theory is that people called Wood worked in the woods and people called Woods owned or at least farmed them. The initial post from the lady who had blood clots sadly is now gone. I also had small blood clots, don't know if it was caused by astrazeneca vac, but decided no more covid vaccine for me. Yes have had flu jab. The info from this lady is good to know. Our experiences are not to influence people , but it's important that we share. Whatever anger there is about the previous President of America and antivax groups ect, it shouldn't prevent us passing on information. My copd nurse accepts my decision on this and that it is individual choice. Using nutter ect are all just put down words and not helpful. Take care all.

Yes you’re right. It depends what it means - I take that to mean party politics, brexit etc. Do we include the political hot potato that is the state of the nhs, even though it’s so very central to the wellbeing of us all us here? The cost of living crisis? Environmental issues, the war in Ukraine? Where do we stop. Maybe ban all those, pat us on the head and just keep the medical stuff (but no criticism of nhs failings), pets and nice photos…

a few weeks probably - I’m being looked after well, in isolation in a small side ward, because they’re not sure which bacteria I’m carrying yet or whether it’s dangerous to others, but it’s dark and poky and the tv only has a few channels! Also hardly any sleep as I’m near the nurses’ station so it’s very noisy. But I’m lucky to have a bed at all, nurses here have voted to strike, and the hospitals are very full! One day at a time…
