Well, latest sputum test shows still have H Influenza, had this over 18 months now and Staph infection, again. So, doxycycline again for two weeks.
Has anyone ever managed to rid themselves of these two bliters because lve been fighting them a wee while now.
I had HI for about 6 months after the flu last year and lots of doxycycline- This years flu only played havoc with my throat and nasal areas-as I had some doxycycline with me I took the 2 weeks worth in case!
Yes Ive had it a few years ago and got rid of it with augmentin taken at the time. If the doxy isn't getting rid of it then could that be the wrong AB? Just taking a shot in the dark here as I have no idea but something isn't working for you and keeping on with the same AB that isn't eradicating it seems strange for me. Hope you get to the bottom of this.

Was given these from a sputum test. Apparently penicillin & amozaxillin work beat but allergic and don't tolerate erythromycin either so the list gets smaller of what l can have
Augmentin is amoxicillin with clavulinic acid added which makes the amox work for those for whom it's stopped working if you see what I mean. But no good for you - what bad luck to be so limited in what you can take. I don't do well with Clarithromycin so understand the problem. Hope something does work eventually.
Sorry you are having struggles with HI. I have been colonised with HI, with other blighters raising there ugly head now and again eg moraxella and strep p. My lungs have behaved a bit longer than they normally do for me - hope I'm not tempting providence.
I am just wondering if you have ever been on a prophylactic medication, such as Azithromycin where you would take a lower dose than a treatment dose usually Mon Wed Fri. Lots of people find them helpful in reducing infections. Might be an idea to speak to you doc about them. I don't tolerate them unfortunately and I didn't tolerate nebulised Colomycin or nebulised Tobramycin, but lots of people find these medications very helpful.
It could just be a different ab which your bugs are sensitive to came up on the lab report.

Hi I've just been told I have been colonised with H and suggests when well to start Azithromycin 3 a week.
How have you been with the colonisation as I don't know what to expect. I have had Mac and I have bronchiectasis with weekly infusions of immunoglobulin.

I was getting infections very frequently, one shortly after the other (not always HI but HI in the main). Tried Azith but it effected my GI and I already have pain from GI problems normally. Tried nebulised Colomycin but ended up in hospital, so breathless I couldn't get a sentence out and similar but to a lesser extent with nebbed Tobramycin.
I am unlucky re the intolerances. We are all very different and the above treatments are helpful to so many bronchs and other people with other lung conditions colonised with pseudomonas or HI.
I feel and hope you will see a great improvement when you start the Azithromycin. As I say many people do.
They work by reducing iflammation and help to break down the biofilms which surround gram negative bugs like pseudo and HI.

just a thought cof but have you ever tried nebulising ceftazidime to keep pseudo down? I can't tolerate tobi and ended up with a horrible infection with colomycin. I tolerate nebulised cef very well and it works! I have had it by IV as well. Most consultants don't think to use it.
Thanks littlepom for the very kind thought and info. I have had Ceph by IV in hospital. Supposed to carry them on at home but I was so ill with them as it made my GI symtoms much worse. Managed 7 days and the con asked if I could manage 10. In the end I limped along to 14. It was effective as far as my lungs were concerned as I was infection free for 3 months 
Might be different of course with Nebulised Ceph.
Fine with Mero doing IVs at home. It was winter and I managed 13 days free of infection. It kicked the pseudo into touch but moraxella came out to play. B***** hell you just can't win sometimes can you?
oh how awful. I used to get terrible IBS symptoms with all abs. Luckily they didn't have all the tests then that have been done on you. After 22 years of marriage I divorced my husband. It took me another 6 to get away from him and I've not had IBS since, abs or not. How funny is that!
Something else we have in common then - divorce - although I didn't have IBS when I was married, I think marriage would be too drastic a step!

They just keep giving me antibiotics which help but then will show again in next sputum test.
What does your consultant have to say about your constant infections Pooh?

Basically not my lungs and discharged me last week. Frustrating!
Have the same or similar myself. Tried many combinations of anti bios but in almost 2 years I have been given colomycin which I use with a nebulizer. It has eased it somewhat but hasn't eradicated it as yet. Supposed to be on this for 6 months. All the best to you.
