can I get DLA OR PIP

I have curvature of the spine arthritis & mild COPD. What are the chances of me been able to get DLA. I work 16 hours per week.

It's not DLA now it's PIP. You get it on not what your condition is, but by how it affects you. As it is a stand alone benefit it doesn't matter whether you are working or not.

Mobility is still DLA surely. Yep. Just checked my bank statement and it listed as

Automatic Credit my NI# DLA

All new claims for both care and mobility come under PIP now Rib. If you have DLA and were state retired before it changed it would stay as DLA. x

I certainly was in a heck of a state when the State retired me 😆 . Blimey they don't 'alf make life difficult for people don't they.

I genuinely feel very sorry for folk who get forced into jumping hoops when they are already finding life difficult. Rib

They do Rib. I am one of the people whom they have made life very difficult for. I am 62 now and can't get my state pension until 65 and 3 months coz I was born 5 years too late. I am lucky in 1 way because I have some private pensions but they are less than 2 thirds of what pensioners get. If I didn't have them I would be forced to sign on JSA and look for work. Meanwhile I am too old to be considered by employers and I can't do most of the work available here as it is physical so am having to manage and pray they don't put my pension age up again. x

I can not imagine if I did not have my pension and my care costs too. Ann and I are aware that we are very fortunate that we are so well funded, but I would trade every penny of it for a return of my fitness and health. Let alone the years of enduring to get this remittance.

Hi I have arthritis and COPD and was awarded PIP most of my points was for the things I have to help with daily living. One thing I would recommend is to get help filling in the form I used the CAB. Good luck

Hi nottobad can I ask you what you get on pip are you on the highest amount? And do you get the mobility side of it as well ? Reason I am asking is I have just applied I have got moderate copd , spinal stenosis and high blood pressure

Hi Mojo I got standard for care and standard for mobility. I was one point off getting higher rate for care. I got 8 points for mobility as I can't walk 20meter without getting breathless.

I went for my assessment last Monday I was there for an hour just waiting now how long did you have to wait

They said 4 to 6 weeks. But I only waited about 2 weeks. Hope you don't have long to wait xx

What stage copd are you sorry if I am being a pest my Spirometery was 69% but I feel worse than that my breathing is bad

I really don't know what stage I am. At the moment. I have an appointment at the resp clinic in December as I am recovering from pneumonia at the moment. So l will ask then.

Definatley NICK1967 ,you should be able to get PIP,as its now called. Lots of pages to complete and members on here probably would advise you to get help filling them in. For one reason only and that is because people like the Citizens Advice Bureau,know how to put the correct words together and believe it or not,this can make such a HUGE difference on the outcome. Good luck and keep us up to date with how you are getting on etc.

Hope you won't mind me saying, Squirrels, but I think you might be a bit optimistic there. As Hidden says, it all depends how these conditions affect Nick & what he can/can't do. If he's only mildly affected he could struggle to get PIP. Definitely good advice to get help with the form though. I suspect all these benefits forms are deliberately designed to deter people from making a claim!

Yes ,I totally agree with you Hidden about being a tad optimistic with @NICK1967 but you are correct it does all depend on how his illness effects his daily life etc etc. I just thought it may deter some people,as they still put on a very admirable,brave face on. Anyone struggling should try for PIP,but organisations like CAB,can advise them from the start. Thanks for your correction. Take care.

Hi all

My experience with benefits system had been pretty good. I called an advisor as I had benn given her contact details from PR nurse. She arranged a home visit, I now receive help with rent council tax and she completed my pip form. I attended my pip assessment this week and the nurse from salus was confident I would qualify for some part of the benefit. Maybe I have been lucky as I am aware others are having problems
