Things are quiet on here lately. Alot of people that regularly post are laid back. (Including myself). Thought we would see what everyones favorite pastimes are. What do you do that takes your mind off of your worries? That small thing you do for you. Time just flies by when you get lost in it. But it's so worth it.

Off to a Labour party gig tonight with the Kamikaze blues band, great to dance to. So i need to get a bit of rest in today first.
Sorry to hear you've been so tired. There's always that period of recuperation which is frustrating when you feel like you should be properly "better".

NOOOO!!!! Sorry to disappoint, Last night I had sore throat so cancelled and think now It's a cold, can you believe it? So I've gone into lock-down, keeping warm, taking VitC, First Defence, Echinacea spray etc and hoping for the best.
Don't eat choccy bics but love caramel shortbread! Mmmmm x
I do a few things.
Make a pot of tea with a nice biscuit or two.
Surf the net especially Pinterest. Or Flickr.
Do some Embroidery if I'm in mood.
Paint a picture or sketch If I feel like it.
Cuddle Luna my Cat.

Go to bed for a nap.

Hi ruby , most of my ailments interfere with most things I enjoy doing but it doesn't mean I don't do them...... Cuddles with my kids and granddaughter, watching/ supervising my hubby decorate or garden, I do jump in occasionally, always enjoyed getting down and dirty. Going to the stables, Watching CSI/NCIS, sleeping, eating, and coming on here to check out how everyone is doing,

Glad to see your enjoying your family. Don't we love our Ncis and csi? I'm binge watching the oldest CSI. Its great. Do you have Netflix? You can watch every episode of shows.
So what do I like to do----
Talk to you guys, read, music, take walks in hilly areas, play short games of golf with my hubby. Go to PGA golf games.
( we've met many of the big name players) want to join a gym.We love to try all different kinds of restaurants. Love to take drives to places we've never been too. Enough is enough RUBY!

Reading, can be 10 minute reads like magazines or books, knitting, cooking, (for friends, bread pudding for 93 year old neighbour) film, anything directed/produced by terrence malick, cohen brothers, Jane campion, woody Allen, however, films I've watched a few times 'get carter' 'bag dad cafe' 'some like it hot' off the top of my head, and music, world, billie holiday, nina (my daughter is named after her) simone, professor longhair, if I fancy a bit of old time boogie woogie, Ian drury, the clash, I also dance like no ones looking, when I can. Yep, lots of reasons to be cheerful xxxxxxx
I liked the Clash and skar music but my biggest music treat is the first 5 Black Sabbath Albums and a few Hawkwind which my sons like as it is not far off techno?
Ah Hawkwind. I saw them live a fair few times. I remember the Windsor free festival way back when. Those were the days !
I saw them in brum I think? I have seen the old versions of little richard, Bill Haley and the Comets and chuck berry to name but a few at the 1972 rock and roll show at Wembley (old one with rubbish toilets)
Our cousin fronted the comets after Bill haley died, jacko never really hit the big time as such, but played backing/session all of his life, can't be bad xxx

A little story. Me and my mates went to see Hawkwind at a London venue way back then. When there was a break we all went down to the foyer for a smoke ( How times change ). Anyway people kept walking past past me saying " Hi Dave " and other such stuff. I said to my mates why are these people saying hello to me ( My name is Dave ) I don't know these people ?
They said I was the spitting image of Dave Brock !
Not exactly a handsome chap but I'm happy with who I am.
Things got worse though. Now I'm the spitting image of Iggy Pop !! I went to one of his gigs at the Apollo with a couple of my daughter's about 4 years ago. I went outside for the proverbial rollup. Three guys near me kept looking at me and mumbling to themselves. I told them I was Iggy's twin brother ! They knew I was joking but were surprised at the likeness.
I was told I looked like Kate bush back in the day, now it's more like les Dawson in drag xxx
I love Hawkwind but have never seen them live. Lemmy went on to start Motorhead I believe. Years ago in the early 70's my first husband went to their house in Dulwich. It was a pretty wild place apparently!
I love their album Warrior on the Edge of Time, especially Web Weaver.
I used to work at East Dulwich Hospital many, many moons ago.

Watching EastEnders, Holby City, Casualty, Escape to the Country (recorded). Documentaries. His Lordship doesn't like films so I don't get to watch many. My favourite occupation is surfing the net. Photoshopping when I am well enough.
Keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook. I have very strict security controls. Even stricter, since I got ripped of recently.
Playing with George, my Jack Russell. Walking in the park with George, when I am well enough.
Drawing when I feel up to it. BBC4 music programmes about the 60's and 70's. Radio is a bit of a problem as my hearing is not good. I can hear Digital tv best. Our ancient sound system is analogue.
When I go to bed, I read my beloved Kindle. For the last few months, have been reading biographies. All about the Mitford Sisters, including Nancy Mitford's four successful novels, written after WW2. Then I started reading about Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Am now reading The Real Diana by Lady Colin Campbell. It was scoffed at when it first came out, but much of it has subsequently proved to be true. I have read Amanda Prowse's books about Poppy Day and her family. What have I done, and the Plum Patisserie books. I have a new one to read.
A wonderful book called the Lost Seamstress by Liz Trenow is heartbreaking but fascinating.
I also read My Weekly and Woman's Weekly. Having been in the print industry, I do read very fast.

I used to think I would prefer books. What is great about Kindle, is that you can put your books on your PC, laptop and tablet as well. That way you can see the illustrations/photos better. It is easier to negotiate too.
Amazon have daily deals, so I have picked up some books for 99p and under.
The Forgotten Seamstress is about an old lady who had been in an asylum most of her life. She is being interviewed by the author. She had been a highly skilled seamstress and embroiderer, for Buckingham Palace. To tell you any more would spoil the story for you.
Why not pay Amazon a visit? You don't need to buy a Kindle, as the books can be read on your laptop, PC or tablet, if you download the Kindle App.

I still have one by Jessica Mitford to read called The Final conflict. It is not available on Kindle so I sent for the book.
Hons and Rebels is a good one to start with. It tells of the Mitford girl's and their brother Tom's childhood. by Jessica Mitford. (book and audio. I lent the book out but can't remember who to.)

Internet is a great thing for me I love to research all sorts of things modern history Etc.
I am a big internet gamer and play a lot of strategy games (arthritis allowing) Big TV watcher and love bad films and strange facts? I so want to go fishing again but need to find a place I can park to get my stuff out and fish as I would never be able to lug the gear anywhere.
I'm in the same boat but usually manage to get out once a week in the warmer weather. Where do you live - I might have some venues to suggest if you're in the Midlands.

We like going to Wroxham when we have time, George loves to see the ducks and swans. We go to the lovely tea room that is right beside the river with an outdoor deck.
Wroxham is nice but I prefer Potter Heigham
We love going to Lathams on our way back from Martham. We sit outside the cafe with George.
We do too but I like to get a bacon roll from the burger van near the moorings over the road.
I've been looking into quantum physics again lately. I wish I had enough internet to watch Einstein docs. QP reveals the indivisibility between energy and matter in the most prodound ways. as I see it physicists are hell bent on seeing the world as physical - duh! - but of course energy is more elusive than they would like it to be, which would be okay if they could ignore it. But it is way too important - at least as important as matter. What makes it really confusing is that it is not observably different from matter in any essential way except for the fact that it is energy, not matter. .. Or wave rather than particle. Clear as mud? Speaking of mud; big rain storm here tonight.

My youngest's middle name and my mother's first ! Coincidence ? I think not.
For hobbies, I would like to list my long walks in the hills and occasional London Marathons, but you know what the copd does to you. Instead, I have to finish two cryptic crossword puzzles and 2 or 3 sudoku before I really start my day. Almost all days I spend 5 or 6 hours on the PC, catching up with mail, doing those xwords and sudoku, and occasionally doing some work. I can remember when business was good one year that I started checking the emails at 7 a.m. and then worked throughout the day whilst the kitchen fairy (Boss) delivered sandwiches and coffee to me. Then she told me to give it a rest ~ at midnight ! Nowadays, with such a prolonged shipping slump, there's no business coming in so I also spend a lot of time reading books, be they heavy or light subjects , good or bad, or even political biographies - which can be both. I also like to organise cheap holidays on the web and surprise the Boss.
Other than the pastimes listed, I squeeze in too many hours of tv watching ~ preferably University Challenge, or something with a high body count ~ whilst also leafing through Wine Club offers. This needs the same serious attention that I pay to lowering the stocks in my wine cave. Nothing too fancy. Just nice dry reds ~ maybe shiraz grapes from Chile. But I'll stop before I put you to sleep.
A glance out the window shows the neighbour's peach blossoms are falling. As you know, this happens once every year, without fail. What you didn't know was that the blossoms always fall onto my deck and have to be swept or hosed away before they stick to the deck. It's a trial, isn't it?

I lived in Japan for 24 years. Over there they would have said, "Sudoku ? Rots of ruck, Lubyled !!"
I do the ones in the Times on Line everyday, just to see if my brain is working. During the day, I quick-switch to a free American site that lets you choose the severity and records your times. Also you can check how well you did against the rest of the world. They were happy days the two times I got 'top 6%' - though I should get it regularly just for good attendance. I've been using it for about 8 years !
Just reading back on my first comment reminds me of an old Irish pal in Japan, who used to run a pub before he cashed in his chips. His daughter was born on the same day as my eldest. Mine was baptised Shereagh-Kathleen, which was workable in Japan, but Jerry and his wife named there's Ruri. It's faintly gaelic (Rory for boys) and also means 'lapis lazuli' in Japanese. What a mouthful for his mother-in-law.
Anyway, we worked it out that the time of conception must have been when we were both on an all-male rugby tour to Taiwan and Manila. The only team member not to go on tour was the fly-half. For years, the story at the Club was that Alan had to buy a bicycle when the team was on tour, just to visit all the wives left at home !!
It didn't do them any harm. Ruri now has her own tv show in Tokyo, on MTV, and Shereagh is earning more than £300k a year as a legal eagle on Canary Wharf.
Enjoy your early May. I am taking the Boss off to Crete for 10 days from tomorrow. It's tuff, but I soldier on,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well that just has to be my photography Ruby and of course spending hours on end playing in photoshop. I find it relaxing and very absorbing. I enjoy pottering in the garden too and now that I have a much smaller garden than I did a few years back, I'll enjoy it all the more because it won't be such hard work. xxx

Hello Ruby as you say some of us have been off just lately, I have been quite busy with group meetings to do with the groups I support. Been doing one of my favorite things today out to lunch with family. Tomorrow I have a social meeting but when I need to relax I turn the telly on make a cuppa or do a little garden cleaning up.
