Hello from a relatively newmember

Hi everyone I'm a relatively new member, it's lovely reading all your kind messages and advice to other members who need a littke help and advice at times.

Now I would like some advice if possible, I suffer from Asthma , and have had a particularly rough time over the last 6mths finanly stabalised On Seretide 250 mcg , when my GP sent me a letter informing me I was to be changed to a different Inhaler 'Flutiform' because it was cheaper!! Anybody else had this happen to them ?

Anybody else on flutiform? if yes, are they ok on this Inhaler.

  • i cant say ive used" flutiform" but i do use seretide,,,, now it maybe it could be better for you,,, but for a doctor to use something because its cheaper is wrong,

just to diverse a little, i use catheter bags, and there was one batch that i got that kept leaking, the taps breaking etc, these were the cheap ones from spain i think, which i found out later, they had a few complaints with these, then reverted back to the "dear" ones.

the should never cut corners when dealing with someones health.

however, as i say, you may find that flutiform might be better for you, im sure there will be others reply on this ,

kindest regards june, i hope you keep well, jimmy xxx :)

  • Thanks for your reply Jimmy I take your point re the New Inhaler sadly it would appear after two weeks it 's not helping me, so back to GP tomorrow my best wishes to you for 2015

  • i hope you get it changed back june, i often wonder if they try wee experiments with us !! :)

lets hope that your g.p can sort things out for you.

best of luck june, have a great 2015, jimmy xx :)

  • Hi June, welcome.

Question back: are you taking your Seretide from the metered dose (spray) or from the disc shaped one (powder)?

I ask because the former holds 120 doses and costs more. The disc one holds only 60. I believe the latter costs £10 less. I was prescribed it but when I told the gp it was false economy he reverted back to the spray which of course lasts twice as long, fewer requests for repeat prescription and fewer trips to the chemists. (And less thrush in the throat).

Sorry I can't help on the Flutiform though. Try looking up the ingredients, it could be made up exactly the same.

I always dread my meds being changed. Like you, my asthma went out of control, loads of chronic bronchitis, 5 x pneumonia. At long last things are going well so I should kick up a hellava stink.

    Good luck. P

  • Hi peege I was on metered dose and got on fine with it, anyway after nearly two weeks of this new drug not too well again so going back to GP. Wish you good health and lots of luck for 2015

  • Welcome to the site June. I used to take seretide 500 and it worked well for about a year, then I noticed that I felt more breathless after using it. I struggled on for a month, and it carried on making me breathless. I requested to be changed to Cenil Modulite 200 which contains Beclometasone dipropionate. I find this one works well for me. (well at the moment it seems to) Sorry neither me nor my partner Az have ever used Flutiform, but everyone is different, and if it does not work well for you, then you should go back to your GP and make sure he listens to you. Good Luck.

  • Welcome June!

I was changed from Seratide to Flutiform and have not noticed any difference - give it a try and if it does not suit you then go back to the GP and let them know. If it save the beleaguered NHS so much the betteer but not at the cost to your health.

  • Hi nice to hear someone else is on Flutiform, sadly I'm not too good after two weeks so back to GP Just fed up when I was stable after 5 very poor months , now regressing !!

Thank you have a good 2015

  • I am on seratide disk inhaler which the Consultant told me to have a spacer with and that will make a difference but I have seen no difference? Most of the time now they will change meds to a generic medicine that should be the same but cheaper. If it is not the same and you see a drop in your health they should change you back.

You can now buy salbutamol from chemists with out prescription and there is a difference in the price to the Ventolin and Generic but are the same. Even cheaper in Spain when I last went there!

    Be Well

  • Thanks for your comments I just wish sometimes the prescribers would listen to the patient a little more . Before they swap medication about for any reason other than what's best for that patient!! Keep well in. 2015

  • Hi June Cov, noticed your question. I take seretide500 and have done for sometime, I was asked to reduce it last year but it did not work so I had to go back to what works best for me. No one should have their medicine changed on financial grounds in my opinion, but I know many use this drug suggested for you with no problem, so it might be worth a try but if it fails go straight back to the GP. Hopefully someone who takes this drug may be able to enlighten you on if it works well, good luck if you change your medication.

  • I agree entirely sadly I'm not doing too well on this Flutiform so defo going back ASAP to discuss my care plan

    All the best for 2015

  • Best Wishes to you for 2015 hope to speak again soon

  • Hi June and welcome!! Sorry i can't help, but you will hear from lots who can. A very Happy New Year to you. Xx
