That memory thing.

I want so much to be more constructive here, to give more to all of you that give so much to those that need more help than others.

Every day I read through the threads and occasionally make a comment or two but it never seems enough, there are so many of you dear people that need cheering up through loneliness or because that your illness has become too much to bear.

I am one of the more fortunate ones with a large and loving family and a wife who is the centre of my world, but when it comes to replying to a thread or offering solace I feel completely at a loss.

Already I have problems with my memory, and my eyes become tired if I spend too long at the computer, that in turn diminishes my ability to give understanding where needed, each day it becomes more difficult as I sit my days out with a window facing onto my small garden or one facing the main road while my desk top opens up a more distant world.

Some are better than others though and a little pasting into ‘Word’ helps me continue to at least try and be an active and more participating member for a little while longer.

I shall always be in the background with hugs and cuddles that would even make the noble and illustrious ‘Care Bears’ proud.

If I start meandering just point my bows in the right direction and give a little push. Thank you.

Allan.

Bless, I so enjoy your jokes, they cheer me. I, like you, never feel I have much to contribute but I think for me it is lack of confidence. When using you computer try turning the brightness down, it sometimes helps. I'll take one of your hugs. Thank you.

Kindest regards

Your contributions are as valid and as valuable as all the others Allan. Please don't sell yourself short. We each contribute in our own ways. One of the great things about this community is the sheer variety of people and people's experience.

As for Word I change the paper colour of my Windows so that instead of white I have used the custom colours to use an Ivory colour. It glares far less with the yellowish tint. After a week I bet you would be so used to it that you wouldn't notice that all the programs have a cream coloured paper. Rib

I know how you feel Allan. Sometimes I will write a reply to some poor suffering soul and although I write from the heart when I read it back it sounds insincere, so I delete it. Then I feel bad that I haven't tried to help. Ho hum.

Hi Bobby,

Aww, you shouldn't delete your posts!! Naughty Bobby..... seriously though, you have a lot to offer, just as much as anyone else, and your opinions and views are just as valid too. If you write from the heart Bobby, then believe me people will know. I often think my replies or posts don't sound right, but then I think, well I have made a point that no one else has made, as yet, and I too have memory problems, which sometimes make me repeat myself, and it only later I realise what I have done! lol That's what is good about here, no one judges, and you are accepted for who you are. The very fact that you care enough to reply is enough for anyone Bobby. Really, it is and there are lots of people who need advice or support.

Take care,

hugs from Huggs xxxx :) :)

Hi Allan, ur jokes are very uplifting and make us all smile. Posting can be difficult as there is no accent attached to writing, how it sounds in our heads and how we write it smiling doesn't always come across the way u want it, so I too have written replys and deleted it as it didn't come across what I wanted to say. Everyone on here is special and were all here for each other and that's what counts. Take care x Sonia x

Gawd your such a lovely person :) :) :)

You cheer us up. I, like you, wish I could do more to help, especially the ones who are on their own.

That was lovely Allan and very thoughtful and kind. You just come on here when you can and say what you need to say. Sometimes just a few words are all that are needed just to let someone know you care. Take good care and wishing you well. xxxx

I agree with sassy Allan. We all do what we can according to our ability. Even if you can't help just coming in and acknowledging someone's post is invaluable. You do that already which is great. Thank you. x

This is such a lovely heart felt article...thank you Alan.

Hi Allan

I'm reasonably new on the site but I take great comfort and interest in what everyone has to say, I'm not great with words but I try. The post you have just done tells and shows you care and that counts for a lot.

Hi Allan,

I don't think you realise how much you contribute to this forum, as you are always around with your good jokes and support and advice if needed. I enjoy reading your thoughts too. As others have said, the very fact that you post shows you care, and that is what it is all about.

I too have memory problems due to a medical condition and understand perfectly how you feel with regard to that. I was seeing a consultant yesterday, and it was a lengthy consultation, but 5 minutes later I had forgotten a lot of what she had said, and she could see my confusion so wrote it down for me, and said she would send a copy of the letter she is sending my GP to me as well, so that I could refer to it. It makes me feel stupid, and inadequate at times, but just keep away from offering detailed advice unless I can think straight, or my thoughts are not disjointed. Others have suggested dimming your screen or changing the background which is a good idea.

You have a lot to offer Allan, so don't forget that.

Take care, and remember showing you care is enough as it is supportive. You are also blessed with being at the centre of a loving family, who I am sure will help if needed, but to be honest you sound fine to me.

hugs from Huggs xxx :) :)

awaken the brain cells and find some interesting memories to share with you in the morning.
