The hospital gave me a leaflet and told me to read it every day for three months and then I'd be cured... Didn't bother seeking more help after that

Hi, I have tinnitus but have never had it treated. It is very low level so no nasty high pitched noises thank goodness. Mind is like a water tank slowly filling up and produces a mild hissing sound. It is worse in the evenings but I get on with it to be honest. I could mention it to my GP I suppose but have not done that as yet. I hope you manage to find something that helps. If you do, please let me know. xxxx

Hi sassy I've only recently had this condition ,mine sounds a lot like yours I cope during the day but it drives me to distraction at night(wonder why it's worse at night) I'm going to the docs today will mention it but not holding out much hope I'm under the impression from a bit of research that not much can be done.If I have any success will post x

it`s worst at night because there are no distractions to take your mind off it . i answered a question about tinnitus a while ago , what i do to help it is to play easy listening music through an i pod or mp3player ,adjust the volume so that it sorts of masks the tinnitus , but from what i have been told there is no cure.

There maybe no cure for tinnitus but then there isn't for COPD. That doesn't mean we all give up because like COPD it can certainly be treated.

My wife suffered with tinnitus for years. Thinking that nothing could be done about it. Now she suffers far less. She changed GP's and the new one referred my good lady to the local hospital. They performed some tests to discover what frequencies were troubling her. They then made silicon - like moulds of her ears and over the next couple of weeks they built her a pair of very discrete ear pieces. These sit in the ear canals and generate a noise cancelling signal.

My wife says that she finds that they help a great deal. Over the last 10 or so years she has been back and had one ear re calibrated and a new bud built.

Hopefully you and other readers may find so help in this. Regards Rib

That is something I have never heard of before and worth looking into.

Thank you

I have had what I can only suppose is a form of tinnitus for the past 8 years after a spell in intensive care at Charing Cross Hospital.

In my left ear I have the sound of travelling on the Piccadilly Line, whilst in my right ear is the sound of a neighbour's T.V. (up too loud) with an American sports commentator getting very excited about a game. Both of these are very loud and '24 - 7' and just to round it off now and again I get a male voice choir chanting somewhere in the middle.

It is driving me round the bend but nobody seems at all interested to help. I am also stone deaf without my 2 aids and people presume that you just sit there in 'stony silence' , IF ONLY!

I no longer even bother to mention it to anyone, as all they seem to do is smile and shrug their shoulders.

I am told by the 'Tinnitus Website' that it is 'Musical hallucinations' or 'Pulsative something' with not much chance of a cure.
