If you are talking 70% lung function, I would say yes that is pretty good as far as damaged lungs go. Some people with only 23% lung function are still walking around and exercising but they would still be regarded as severe.

To help preserve lung health and your health generally you would still need to take all the proven methods for preservation. ie good diet, regular exercise, avoiding persons with colds or the flu. Avoid smoke of any kind etc. etc.

The BLF helpline can provide further information on things you can do to help preserve your lung health or you can read the BLF pages here:

Hi

If you have had a lung function test and your fev1 is 70% it would be classed as moderate however it's really on how you are feeling and what symptoms you have.

If you have your sprimority results contact the a BLF nurse and go through your numbers.

Generally you want your % numbers up high, anything close to 100 is fantastic, but again your health is the most important, feep fiot, eat good, stay active and don't ever go near smoke again.

The BLF team will send you a cracking pack and CD, Information contained is about COPD.

All the best

Hello Mogsy.I disagree with 1968.I would think a spirometer reading of 70% would put you in the mild bracket.

Good luck & Best Wishes

Hi, To put it in perspective - My husband has an FEV1% of 28% and has had that for a couple of years. He does however continue to work (office job) and we have a good quality of life!! In my opinion 70 is pretty good - a note of caution you need to work very hard to stop the progression of COPD:-

No Smoking

Healthy Weight

Keep as fit as possible - this is so important

Take your meds. - If you think you are starting with an infection go straight to the Doctor

Have a flu and pneumonia jab

Good luck, stay positive and live a happy life! TAD xx

Mine is 65% and I've been told I'm moderate, feels like it too.
