My consultants meeting that almost never happened.

I had a consultants meeting last week at the unusually later time of 3.45pm. I decided to make use of my bus pass which would involve a couple of changes and a nice little walk, well there was no early rush and it was free.

Everything went very well, nurses weighed me, respiratory technician did a spirometry test and I returned to the waiting room and waited and waited to see the consultants registrar. Well I watched everyone go home as their shifts finished, even the receptionist and the last remaining patient who asked me comically if I wanted to book a bed as he too had waited quite a while.

I was now alone and the hospital was very quite. It was then that the door from the consultancy rooms opened

and out came the lady registrar, she had her bag over her arm and she was going home. It was at this point she saw me in the corner of her eye and slowly turned and asked, 'are you here to see somebody' I realised at this point, things were definitely going a little pair shaped, I replied with a grin on my face 'Yes You'. Well I did think at this point my journey on the bus had been wasted but no she was brilliant. She at first said 'where are your notes' and then asked me back into the consultancy room where the usual questions and answers were exchanged. It seems as though someone lower down in the pecking order had put my notes in the wrong pile.

I did think though how lucky I was that she had exited through the waiting room and not some back door as there are plenty, otherwise I could still be sat waiting and wondering now.

The NHS eh, it works well for me but sometimes I do wonder how.

Tony, stay fit to breathe everyone. :)

Hi MC, I'm slow at getting rolling but once I'm going there's no stopping me.

What a good consultant she is, I think a lot might have just seen you to the door with a muttering of apology and an utterance of wait for a new letter. I am pleased that she saw you and that your journey was not in vain. Hope she said good things for you.

I like her, she's always been very helpful and this just confirmed to me that she's better than most. As you say a large majority of consultants/registrars would have made their excuses and legged it.

We had quite a lengthy discussion and I didn't feel as though she was rushing me out of the door. There was no bad news either so I like her, I really like her. :)

Tony.

I'm so glad she saw you Tony, many would not have.

A similar thing happened to me some years ago when they kept putting other people's notes on top of mine, so I was still sitting there when others came and went. I noticed what was happening and when i mentioned it to the receptionist said she wasn't doing that. The next time she did it, I pointed it out to her and I went in next. Not an apology from her though!

Sounds like you go to the same hospital as me I just hope you do not have the same luck as me. They called me, but transposed my first and last name It was not until they called again I questioned it and said it in the right order, they looked down and said oh yes it is you!
