Sensitivity to Inactive Ingredients in tablets.

Does anyone have sensitivity to the Inactive Ingredients in medication, particularly with tablets that are prescribed for an Overactive Bladder?

Inactive Ingredients appear in all tablets, adding things such as bulk and stability to the Active Ingredient.

Inactive ingredients differ from brand to brand.

For example, the Zentiva brand of Solifenacin has, quite rightly, Solifenacin as its Active Ingredient, and then the rest of that tablet contains a whole load of Inactive Ingredients.

Consider next, the brand of Solifenacin made by Milpharm. Same Active Ingredient, but the Inactive ones differ to those used by Zentiva. It means that whilst Milpharm works for me, eliminating all problems, Zentiva does not. (I have a list of brands that work and those that don't.)

My community pharmacy tries hard to obtain the brands that work for me, but due to current national shortages in medication in general, I'm now having to accept whatever brand they can get for me.

The result? Life stops while I deal with the return of an overactive bladder.

Changing to something like Mirabegron which is often also prescribed to treat an Overactive Bladder is not the answer, as the issue remains that its the Inactive Ingredients that are the problem, and they are found in every single tablet one takes.

I've tried every avenue I can think of to find an expert who understands this sensitivity to Inactive Ingredients. but so far, no luck. Unlike the UK, the US seems to have done quite a lot of research on this subject, but I can't find an expert / leading pharmacist / consultant here who will advise me / help me.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has this same sensitivity to Inactive Ingredients.

Hi again Veronica. I would not know if I have sensitivity to inactive ingredients as I have only had the one brand. They come from Ascend Laboratories. The tablets worked well from December to now. Having problems now. Mirabegnon worry me as I suffer HB. Also the side effect of UTIs is not something I would like. They are not supposed to work as well either. How do you know what the inactive ingredients are.
