Angina?

I had chest pain out of the blue about eight weeks ago. Went to A&E, heart trace was fine. Was told troponin was slightly raised. They thought maybe angina. Tried to do a stress test, couldn't do it because of mobility issues. Had another heart trace at cardiac app, assume all ok, they advised a drug induced stress test, waiting for that. In the last two weeks have been breathless, slight cough and swelling of my ankles. Also think I have swelling under my breasts also. Due a telephone follow-up with cardiac nurse, not for another two weeks. Should I contact my GP or hospital regarding these new symptoms. Thank you.

Yes, definitely report the new symptoms.

Try 111. They should have access to your medical records. But, be patient, for if you are not classed as urgent it could be a few hours before you get a call back. But do not leave it late in the day to get your call in, or you may get a call back in the middle of the night as I did.

Hi there — those new symptoms definitely sound like something that should be checked sooner rather than later.

Breathlessness, ankle swelling, and a feeling of pressure or swelling under the breast area can sometimes suggest changes in circulation or fluid retention — especially after a recent episode involving chest pain and a raised troponin. It doesn’t necessarily mean something serious, but it’s worth having a doctor look into it to be safe.

If I were in your position, I would:

Contact your GP and explain that you’re waiting for a follow-up and stress test, but now have new symptoms that are making you concerned

If your GP can’t see you quickly, it’s reasonable to contact the hospital cardiology department or nurse line to see if they can bring your follow-up forward

You’re absolutely right to listen to your body, and you’re not being a nuisance — you’re being responsible. Hopefully it turns out to be something minor, but it’s always best to check when things change.

Wishing you reassurance and answers soon

I'd ring 111 as they can advise you what to do and where to go

A few months ago, I had chest pains. Went to the emergency room where they discovered my troponin levels were somewhat elevated (in 40s). I eventually had angiography and a stent placed a few days later.

I wonder why they are doing the stress test. It has a lot of false negatives/positives. They probably should do some sort of imaging to know for sure what is going on with the heart arteries: calcium score and/or CCTA (Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography)

I hope they have put you on aspirin and other meds while you wait. And yes. Do inform them about the new symptoms.

My GP put me on clopidogrel, can't have aspirin because I'm asthmatic. Just a month's course, maybe should have got more. Also GTN spray. Not one for doctors, not that I've seen one. Prescribed over phone.
